After fishing most of the accessible spots to the bank opposite the ticket machine down as far as the bird hut and the dam area, I managed to bag one fish of around two pounds taken on a diawl bach fished slowly on an intermediate line taken at the dam area. Weather was very cold and windy at times, no fish showing all day.

No fish caught, raised or seen. No hatch - only 2 flies seen all day. Perhaps, due to the recent snow and continuing easterlies, river conditions are more like mid March than mid April.
Please note that the directions for the lower beat could be improved because the hedge alongside the bridge is impassable, I suggest you insert between ...water treatment works and access the river "cross the bridge and walk 250 yards down the road to enter the field by the gate, then walk back on the other side of the hedge" to access the river etc.

Still quite cold. Stream was clear and bracing. No fish seen - I suspect it's still a little cold for them to have moved this far up. A very pretty beat, I look forward to returning once it has warmed a little.

Fly fished with long tail tosh for one hour in bottom pool in the hope of a fish dropping in there after the slight rise and drop of water. Had two good takes and failed to hook and possibly a third. I'm pretty sure they were salmon. Saw a cracking fish break the surface in the run far side which must have been a twenty and heard another above me which I failed to see. Lovely conditions and the slight rise of 2" brought no colour with it so it can disappear between here and the Ithon!

Got down for first light and all quiet. First fish seen porpoising around 13:30 in the Vanstone. Couple of touches from the Corner Tree, Vanstone and Gabions. RC had 2 pike around 8lbs and a very well mended kelt between Corner Tree and Vanstone. BB...blank. Stayed till dark. Mention must go to WUF for the superb job they have done improving access to the left bank from the Wires upwards.

More or less first cast and a 32'' fresh cock spinning in first pool above top island. Nice beat with 2 distinct halves - nice fly water in bottom half and deeper spinning water in top half. Early evening had a great pull on the fly nearing the bottom of the beat. Stayed connected for all of 5 seconds so still waiting for my first Wye salmon on the fly!
