Four carp caught. Weed thinner than previous years, so lighter lines possible. Lots of minnows in the margins, upon which the carp were feeding. Lake was spectacular. My favorite wild carp lake.

Same extreme heat avoiding approach followed as yesterday. Another good day's fishing, with 5 barbel to 9lb 9oz and a 4lb chub. River now in need of some rain. The barbel have still only just about finished spawning - a 7lb fish produced milt on the bank today.

14 x trout 6-9 inches on a size 16 Rusty Klinkhammer. Started at 7pm in the evening after a very hot day and just about reached the top of the beat by 10pm. Confidence rather needed restoring this evening after waking up from a singularly unsuccessful night's sewin fishing and a long drive home this morning. Plenty of the little fellows were rising (blue winged olives were the main interest but nothing more technical than a reddish brown klinkhammer was needed to get takes). Altogether a delightful evening during which a kingfisher flew under the rod. There was even time, after casting at the last few rises heard rather than seen in darkness, to make it to the Rising Sun for last orders.

What a lovely stretch of water. When we got to the water the sun was up and it was really hot, fishing was going to be hard for us we thought. We took a look round first before fishing and found that the river was running low. My mate P fished the top end and I decided to fish the very last swim on the beat, road side. I did find it hard to find a swim with a bit of depth in it as the river was running low. The bottom had a few snags in it, large rocks and due to this I lost a bit of tackle. I moved to the middle stretch, to try my hand at a bit of long trotting and ended up with three nice chub of about 4lb. P fished about 100 yards down from the bridge, road side. He had two barbel of about 5 and 7lb with about 9+ chub. All of Paul's fish were caught using the barbel bomb with pellet hook bait. There was not so many snags in P's swim. Considering the weather conditions we didn't do too bad. Parking and access is good. We had a great day many thanks.

Early start, 2 eels, one very large from the Pumping Station. Later in the day fished what we think was Henrys pool, 5 chub, biggest around 5 pounds and 1 barbel. This is a fantastic looking stretch but needs to be a sign indicating beat start and end. Word of warning the canoes started at around 9.30am and did not stop until 5pm. After fishing the Wye for a long time I feel the canoes are starting to have a negative effect on the fishing. Too many for too long. Having said that will be back again for some of the best chub the UK has to offer.

Only able to fish until 12.00 - No fish caught. Trout rising at 08.00 but not taking on any flies presented. Dry, wet (nymphs etc.) or lures. Wind picked up and expected takes but none forthcoming. Bit disappointing but that's fly fishing!

Conditions were totally against us - hot, bright sunshine and many canoeists. Still, first time fishing Goodrich and sure it would be a lovely beat in the right conditions. Saw a couple of resident fish show in the Vanstone but that was it.
