Great days fishing in a lovely setting. Conditions were good. Took my Dad along who has never landed a Barbel and he was over the moon with is tally of 8 Barbel all weighing between 5lb 6oz - 7lb 12oz. He also had a 3lb Chub. I had 2 Barbel (5lb 12oz - 6lb) and 4 Chub (2lb - 3lb 10oz). My mate who came along late, caught a 1lb Chub and cooked up some lovely hot dogs! All were taken on hair rigged pellet or boilies. The only negative comment was there were not many accessible deep water swims. Saying that I will return....

Tenkara first timer - really good fun and very relaxing. Thank you for a great day.
First time on the Lugg as well - more algae/sediment than I would have expected plus, at the point where the river is blocked with a fallen tree there is a smell of poultry manure. I fished around this area for sometime (with no luck) and after a while my sinuses felt sore, the following day I had a headache and felt like I was getting a cold. Perhaps the EA ought to have a look??
Some paths through the undergrowth would be appreciated where there is an access point.

Weather was not great with thunderstorm and constant rain throughout 5 hours with few dry spells and just my luck of the day. The stream was very over grown and few fallen trees. As I am new to the sport I found it very difficult casting in such over growth but never the less it was a great day and enjoyed it.
2 fish around 5 inches returned on Adams parachute. I may return one day with more experience behind me. I am interested in reading other comments from the experienced anglers on this same beat but very pleased with how I tackled this.

Fished the full day, with fish coming fairly regularly. 6 barbel in the morning with a few chub, then a switch to meat brough a chub a cast and I lost count of the number. The afternoon was slow, but from around 6pm things picked up and particularly the last couple of hours of the day when the barbel realy appeared to move in.

Having fished this beat 2 years ago we were looking forward to our first session from late afternoon having driven up from London earlier. We were disappointed to find two anglers set up with their platforms stationed in mid river, fishing the deep water close in to our bank in the swims we had planned to fish. They left after a few of hours so my fishing partner was able to fish one of the swims and landed 3 immaculate Barbel to 7lbs 3 Chub and an eel. I stayed in the first swim by the line of trees and caught a nice Barbel around 4lbs later on. We were booked in the next day for a full session on the beat.

Hard to fish, very rocky, croys poor condition. Lucky stone swim had two barbel anglers on the far side so a long walk for nothing. Tried fly and spinner nothing.
