A day which promised much with the river in fine condition, some warmth in the air and not too bright. Sadly, through lack of skill or some other reason unknown we caught one fish between us! I have fished the Wye 3 times in the last two years and found on each occasion that the best technique was to fish across and down with a team of small dark flies. The previous two visits, this method has been highly successful and so we began the day employing this tactic. We tried most methods throughout the day but only had any success using small dark flies. We lost several fish and had a lot of 'plucks' too but only landed one fish. This stretch of the river is lovely and the middle section is easy to access and fish. The rest of the beat is more suited to salmon anglers I feel but nonetheless we had a lovely day in beuatiful surroundings.

A short trip to the brook on Sunday midday for a couple of hours. Bright and a bit breezy. There was a small amount of movement but no real feeding activity on the surface despite some midge/insect activity. The river level was good and clear. Whilst no fish were caught it was a lovely afternoon enhanced by a kingfisher.

The river was very low and although I fished through to 9.15 pm there were few rises. It's a big river for trout fishing with long and slow pools (not ideal but look good for salmon) with some nice gravel runs and narrow channels between rocks. Caught small trout on klinkhammer and hares ear gold head although they hardly bent my rod.
Best stretches appear to be near pools either side of the fishing hut.

Lots of Salmon showing, but the water had a dirty colour that put them off. Mick the Ghillie was a great help and put me on fish, but they just were not interested. A mid morning raft race with about 20 rafts. That made more noise than 1000 speed boats, did not help the salmon fishing. They just rowed straight down the middle of the river at pace nearly mowing me down. Stupid, ignorant and dangerous.

Hi water was coloured with no sign of fish, heavy rain falling caused river to rapidly increase in depth and cloudiness. 5-6 dead sheep in and along river bank, smelling bad. Altogether not ideal. one bit all day. Map not accurate. regards Neil

Very difficult to access this beat (fences, low-hanging branches etc) not least because the water was high after recent rain. Gave in after two hours and left it for hardier anglers than myself!
