My first outing on the usk in nearly thirty years, worked hard with artificial lures for the first hour or two but nothing doing eventually used the tried and tested worm that 2 rainbows could not resist at lunch time. I was however a bit disappointed with the conditions of the roads around the lake, look as if they hadnt been maintained in 30 years since my last visit! Will be returning however as the location is idyllic.

Bright and sunny evening session, fished from 6-8pm. Very few rises so fished pheasant tail nymph. Took 7 trout but lost a few more due to using barbless hooks. Largest around 8 inches the rest averaged 3-6 inches. Enjoyable evening on a very well kept beat.

A lovely afternoon of trout fishing on this beautiful beat. The river quiet in the morning, but a few showing rising from lunchtime, and an intermittent rise of fish to a good hatch of Yellow Mays and Olives during the afternoon. Half a dozen lovely trout called on the dry-fly, including a beautiful fish of c. 18''.

Beat access is very difficult - much harder than the beat description implies. It should be clearer. Banks are steep and overgrown and there is a lot of deep mud that makes getting in and out very difficult. There is also a lot of deep water on this bank. The top part of the beat is entirely overgrown and inacccessible so the beat is effectively shorter than the map suggests. A herd of bullocks that home in on you at a gallop every time you appear on the bank only adds to the difficulty.
