First time at fly fishing. Chose this beat as I knew from a previous winter grayling session that there were some good clear areas where I could have unimpeded casting. There were a few fish rising to Mayflies and despite my ineptness I managed to catch a brown trout of about 8 inches on a Mayfly imitation. A few others had a good look but didn’t take it down. Looking forward to the next trip.

Surprisingly tricky this morning... fished an old favourite between nine and eleven .. no takers on the tiny Deer Hair emeger I tried first thing ... nor on a big bushy mayfly either come to think of it !!!!
Mmmmmmm .... its sometimes nice figuring out a tricky session , on with a tan klinhammer ... bang!! First one to have about eight inches lovely colours as always...second one another forty yards up same size ... then it was that canalised section had the third ... feisty and all of six inches , as was the last up by the weir ... I did see footprints in the silt on the way up in a likely position a fly angler would stand ,so could have been a Kington member there earlier not sure ... still a fun couple of hours I did stop of at another river enroute home and managed three there on the Parachute Adams , so a fun varied morning ..... Bit of a jungle up at the Kington beat now and that huge Ash across the river is dam hard to negotiate now !!! An easier one next week I think like Hergest or Llandewi .... mind you , there all on their bones now .... let's have three good days of rain .... sorted !!!!

Been staying at a friend’s house in Lyonshall and fished this beat several times in the week for about an hour each time - hence one consolidated return Lovely beat but, unable to contact any fish all week. This morning’s foray summed up the trip. First pool I come to I see rising fish, check fly - parachute Greenwells (seems to have been working for JA from Leominster) poor cast - no more rising fish. Second pool I see rising fish. Two better casts but no takers - however, remaining hopeful was about to re-cast when an otter swam up within a couple of feet of me and disappeared into the area where the fish had been rising. No more rising fish. Came home. I have seen fish and recent returns JA suggest they are catchable. I think I need to work on my technique, my entomology and review whether my 7ft 3 wt is too heavy for dries- but JA, if you have any tips…..
