Arrived 9.30am, large Barbel seem rolling, in front of the middle peg. Bright sunshine and very low, clear water, meant it was a challenging day. First Chub caught mid-afternoon, on trotted luncheon meat. A small Dace followed shortly afterwards .
From 5pm onwards, Chub (between 2 and 5lb) were banked regularly, on ledgered pellet. All in very good condition. Enjoyable, but the Barbel seen first thing in morning, remained elusive. I suspect a similar story for most, given the conditions.

A very tricky river to wade in. Lots of large boulders not easily seen through the peaty water and a few very sudden drop offs. Wading upstream eventually I got to appoint where I couldn't easily find a way forward without swimming and I called it a day.
Nevertheless a good 6 hours of very pleasant fishing was had and caught 4 all around the 10inch mark but real feisty little fighters.
I hooked another 2 but.lost them on my barbless flies. They were all really taking the dark nymphs and although I had a spider on my rig, nothing really hooked on that.
I did also add a small bit weight, to help line sink quicker as they were taking in the deep fast water..
Great day will be back.

River low and clear. Barbel caught in fast flowing water to ledger. Chub to 4lb, but mostly 2-3lb, caught on float trotting meat. A few of the Chub fell to the ledger. Fantastic days fishing, but an extremely hard over the hill walk past the wood at the beginning and end of the day.

Fished the only swim that i considered fairly safe to access and eventually nearly slipped into the river. My friend could not fish at all because it was too dangerous for him to access a swim. We gave up and left.
