Only fished the top pools with a fly for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Fished the Usk for trout in the morning instead as prospects were poor with the persistent dark peaty stain in the Wye.
Nothing seen or caught.

River conditions quite a good flow turning the colour brown. This is a wilder place to fish perhaps needs care on bank steepness and access where fish holes exist. Used feeder pellet, meat and corn. No Barbel our main quarry. Great feeling of isolation and peace and quiet.

The river was high and access was not to easy as much of the back was overgrown. Access to the very top was not easy and anyone with poor mobility may struggle. If the river was lower we may have found it easier to wade

Water looked a bit peaty when I arrived, and strong flow. Started fishing about 2pm, with nymphs, mostly downstream and across. By 5.30pm I had caught three small fish. The water was slowly fining down and levels falling. Time for a bit of pork pie. Between 6 and 8.30 I caught 4 more, including one of about 3¼lbs which I was very peased with. Very satisfying day.

1 pretty WBT for JD saved a blank. Otherwise not even a nibble for either of us. Fished PM until 9pm, only a few rises that weren't repeated. Water fresh and clear, little bit of a shower later on. Some bugs about.
