Largest barbel 10lb 12oz
Largest chub 5lb 40z

Had to rotate swims as it seemed you would get a quick fish then nothing. Could go back an hour later and nick another.

Hooked something that I had on for 35 minutes! If it was a barbel it was huge. Felt very very heavy. Slowly took line working its way down stream about 50m! Could do nothing to stop it. Would hold in the flow for a while but if I tried to get any line back it would set off downstream again and just take more. I’m guessing a carp or salmon?... If not it was by far the biggest barbel I’ve ever hooked. I was worried I would run out of line!

5lb and 6lb caught on medium Halibut pellets on a ledger rig.

Track down to the bank is steep and rough and only really suitable for a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Less than half a dozen useable swims on the stretch with the river at the height we experienced. Plenty of Barbel and Chub present, also eels if using meat.

Rained all day but fishing was good throughout. Drive back up the hill afterwards was hairy without 4x4 and we had to leave one car on the bank overnight. Lots of varied water to choose from but so disappointing that access to much of it is impossible. The long meadow section at the start of the beat is about 10' above the water with no way of landing a fish. This puts added pressure on the few recognisable swims and these were very muddy as a result of the weather and frequent use.

River fairly up for the time of year with a rusty colour but swim access because of above and showers quite slippery awkward. When the river is up locals recommend the use of a spike and rope. Fish caught on the bottom feeder various baits boilies, meat, pellets. All enjoyable but be careful on exit from the parking area to the main road. This is totally blind and I wondered if a concealed exit slow down sign plus a mirror set to see oncoming traffic would improve this for safety.

The forest on the hillside behind the fishery sets a wonderful backdrop and another beautiful part of Herefordshire. Fished from 1-8 and would recommend The Carrots pub to discuss the day over a Guinness which is excellent.

Beat:The Rectory Fishery

Fishing:Member Rod

No. of Anglers:1

Hen fish around 8/9lb from the tail of the Rock Pool on the Rectory on a black and copper flying C. Single hook fell out in the net. Fish went back strongly. River quite coloured, but not dirty and too high to fly fish.
