Went looking for Grayling and just kept on catching trout!
Six in total between 10 and 12" all returned safely..... lost a much larger one from a narrow gutter.
A wading tip for newcomers to the beat...the last pool on the beat is long and deep and about halfway up on the right side looking upstream is a largish submerged rock which is v.easy to trip over!!

What a fantastic day!!
My first time on the Irfon and it's a stunning stretch of river. The day was made even better when I managed to hook and land my first grayling after several unsuccessful trips in search of this beautiful, hard fighting fish. This fish was about a pound and a half in weight and was the first of three. The other two were around the half pound to a pound mark. A small wbt of about 10" was also landed and a much larger fish lost as it somersaulted through the air. All fish were taken on Czech nymphs.
A fantastic experience made even better as the wife also landed her first grayling.
Many many thanks to Seth who's advice proved to be invaluable.

Decided to take a chance on the river being fishable following the recent heavy rain. On arrival the river was carrying a lot of water and a bit coloured. Gave it a go and headed to the bottom of the beat. Nymphs were the order of the day and 4 hours later I packed up having caught 10 fish (ten more than I expected to catch given the conditions!) 2 Browns and 8 grayling. One was a fish of 46cm followed by two at 44cm the rest a mix of sizes. Headed home to a roast chicken dinner with a bit of a smile on my face having enjoyed a nice mornings fishing,
all fish were returned safely.
