Nothing caught.
It was a cold May day with no hatches seen.
Fishing nymphs I had a few missed takes. I was surprised to lose 3 flies during takes and was using Frog Hair tippet x7 for the first time.

Didn't fish due to a "wash-off" - river was flooded, fast running, brown and murky!

Beat:The Honddu - Lower Stanton Beat
Fishing:Trout (River)

A strong nibble but no fish - too flooded! Very inquisitive horses on the approach field had me cornered for a while - advice is to stand your ground and they will get used to you!
My first time in these parts. If this is the standard I am very happy and really looking forward to a return on any roving beat in calmer times. Very handy for the Skirrin Inn this one!

Beat:
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:2
Fished a short afternoon session on a very cold overcast day - max temp 9c, but with light winds. The sheltered bay at the dam end had sporadic hatches and the trout responded by rising freely even in this cold weather. We caught 8 brownies, largest 15in, on dry fly and emerger patterns. All in good condition, and all safely returned.

Stayed at The Croft B & B at Lyonshall which was excellent.
Unfortunately the river was in spate and had to use rover tickets to fish the upper wye and Irfon.

One rod 4 WBT to threequarter pound. Second rod blank. All fish returned.
Casting difficult along much of the beat and water too high to wade aceross to try from opposite bank. some clearance would enhance the experience on what is a very attractive venue.
Weather was, I think, a bit too cold for much action.
After 40 + plus years a welcome return to the Usk

Headed up to the Irfon after being booked to fish at Abernant, considered the Wye unfishable. Very nice beat, well worth the walk. Two 12" brown trout and one 14" out of season grayling caught. Many thanks to Gareth Lewis for sound advice.
