Lovely day, no fish seen or caught. Unable to access upper end of beat: water too deep to wade with thigh waders after approx half way (where tributary enters Wye next to road), and no bank access here. Not sure if this was due to recent rain, although river did not seem particularly high.

Nice water levels and carying just a hint of colour. The nicest day of May so far with just a breath of wind and warm sunshine. Managed 7 fish, all of between 10 and 12 inches on Klinks and parachute Adams. Few risers although when they did they were takers. Some olives hatching and saw 2 Mays so things looking up. Some more warmer weather would kick start everything off.
A nice beat.

Beat:Skenfrith
Fishing:Trout (River)

With the river showing 12" on the gauge, both wading and the determination of any of the bed's features were difficult. The total absence of any rising fish or hatches of any upwing flies, also contributed to there being few clues available to determine the best approach.
We resorted to dropping beaded GRHE nymphs into the most likely looking spots, resulting in 4 small trout and 2 small grayling being caught.
All in all, a very enjoyable day and we hope that the next time we fish this beat, the water will be clearer and 6" to 12" lower.

5 fish caught and released the best being just under 1 lb, many other fish missed as the fish rose intermittently to olive hatches. Good conditions appart from a strong downstream wind.

6 WBT caught and returned, 5 of which were rising fish and stalked with a tiny black midge pattern. Should have at least doubled my tally as I missed a multitude of takes. Lovely beat.

Beat:The Lugg, Litton Beat

The river was still up about 9" with a little colour, and flowing quite swiftly, a head wind didn't help with casting in a small stream situation, but never mind after a few casts I managed to rise a fish to an olive klinkhammer size 14 which was rejected, Changed to a size 20 klinkhammer dark brown in colour, a few yards further and a fish sipped to my side, it took the klink first cast a nice 10" WBT. They were the only fish caught and seen in 5hrs. LDO's were sporadic but 3-30pm brought on a massive hatch. This beat is still very disappointing as only the first 3 1/2 fields from the start of the beat are accessible from there its impossible with fallen trees etc. and the fences stop you. I think this needs resolving, I traveled 1hr 35mins 65miles to fish this stream only to be denied the rest of the day by obstructions.
WUF note: This beat is scheduled for maintenance work this winter.
