One brown trout, about 35cm caught at the middle planks. One brown trout 25 cm, On the flat middle of the stream. One trout taken on the flat middle of the stream, a 35cm brown trout. All fish released.

Easy to find but parking on the side of the road in a small village so maybe don your thermals before arriving. Another chilly morning, 11C with a weak but cold wind. Had a fishing meltdown in the first section of the beat. Seemed to hook everything but a fish. Didn't see anything move for a couple of hours so turned on my heel and left it for another day.
Chatting with a fishing mate in the evening who rates the Cilieni suggested I fish through the first half of the beat very quickly and concentrate on the top half which has been extensively coppiced and holds a good head of trout. Should have spoken to him the night before!

After a disasterous morning on the Cilieni met up with a pal for a couple of hours on the Honddu. Chilly, grey afternoon. Plenty of water but this trib is characterised by riffles and shallow broken water with precious few fish holding pools. Easy to wade but very tight casting.
Very little hatching but did manage to winkle out 1 wbt of around 9" on an Adams. I suspect the Honddu fishes better when the weather warms up a bit, but then there is the possibility of less water which would be a significant trade off.

Started at 10.30am with one rod trying for a salmon, the other going for trout. No joy with the salmon but a variety of flies kept the trout rising throughout the day with a combined catch of over 30 trout and several oos grayling. Biggest trout was around the 1.75lb mark, with lots over a pound. Emerging olives were the most successful patterns although several fish were also taken on nymph. All fish released.

Very worthwhile few hours on this little brook. Level was still a bit up on its normal level with a few tree dams holding back considerable "lakes".
Started off with nymphs but changed to dries when I noticed fish taking god knows what off the surface.Opted for black klinkhammer in a size 16 which seemed to work the best.
Had about 16/17 small trout in total best measuring about 8 inch and all in the range 6 - 8 inches. Had 7 trout from one pool. There was a local fishing worms in the EA gauge pool who disappeared when I came along.

2 x salmon 37 inches and 30 inches, on a Flying C. Conditions just about right, water high and clear, warmer day, sunny with occasional cloud. A beautiful silver cock fish first, then a smaller but equally pretty hen from the same spot just an hour later. I guess they are still shuffling upstream. Two more spring salmon both around the 20 pounds mark reported on the same beat during the last week.

Fished 10 - 12.30. No fly. No rises. Three trout on tung-headed GRHE nymph. Very cold last night so maybe needs to settle down and to warm up a little to get things going over the next month or so. Decided to head home and fish the Red Lion water in the afternoon.

Fished from 2 - 5.30 pm. Rather windy on arrival but it abated during the afternoon. Arrived, probably at the tail of the day's main Yellow May hatch, but Olive Uprights were also emerging. Found some rising fish, one gently sipping in a foam lane. Missed it the first time on a Yellow May emerger, but saw it, and as is so often the case, little sips can mean big fish. Ten minutes later, a two and threequarter pound beauty fell to a Duck's Dun style O.U. emerger. Later five out-of-season grayling to 11" and five trout to 12" were taken on similar DD style patterns. Needless to say, all fish returned. At 5p.m someone turned the switch off.....time for a beer!

Disappointing! This beat did not live up to its 4 voucher rating. In fact, we didn't see any fish at all in the 5 hours we fished the beat. We had no takes and saw only one rise. I usually catch when fishing rivers but despite trying a range of dry flies and nymphs at various depths, we had no success. The weather was warm and water levels were normal. Given the lack of evidence of fish, I am left wonder whether possible outflow from the Sewage Works may currently be adversely affecting the fish stock.
