The final day of my excursion to the usk. I really enjoyed my day at Glanusk, it had a lovely feel to the beat. Caught plenty of trout (lost count to be honest) biggest to about 13". Like the other beats earlier in the week there was a distinct lack of rising fish so to the nymph i turned. River was quite high and forceful in the streamy sections so a wading staff a must but tricky wading was rewarded by quantity of fish. Various weighted nymphs did the business, below the bridge was a particular hotspot. Thanks to seth for the advice on the beats and thanks to the rest of the team for their good work.

Caught 7 barbel and two chub, all on pellets. Conditions were initially against us, because of a massive thunderstorm early on the first day so we were more than happy to have landed this many.
Stayed at the Red Lion in Bredwardine, which was friendly, simple and comfortable.
The Foundation's service was terrific...thank you.
At Wyastone, a local resident had left a rude note on our car, saying that two cars are not allowed to park there...even though we only had one. The other car was nothing to do with us and must have arrived after we had started fishing. For what it's worth, I'd say there is plenty of space for two or even three cars.

Unfortunately the river had risen by approx 2feet and carried a lot of colour, the fishing was hard and only two fish were landed both Barbel the first to Roger and the second to Paul which weighed in at 8 pounds 12 oz and in fine fettle. we called it a day at around 4.00pm and went to the pub.
Fished Courtfield before and will fish it again.

Arrived to find the river roaring through and the colour of strong tea.We realised it was going to be tough to catch. Was using 4 and 5 ounce leads and could not always hold bottom. After trying different methods through the day we did manage to land a 5lb barbel, so all was not lost!
This is a beautiful quiet location-we will be back.

Really great place to fish but the weather was against us - driving rain and wind. Started at the top end (could have done with a slight addition to the notes to indicate that this was where the hot spot for trout was - we had to take a chance that the ranunculus beds were at that end). Worked the shore as hard as we could but after a hard wet day only managed one 8 oz brown - hard won, but half a brace is better than none, particularly considering the conditions.

River was about 4 feet up over summer level and heavily coloured. We fished off the bottom end of the island and had a fantastic days fishing. The fish fed all day and we ended with a total of 31 Barbel and 10 chub, best fish was 7 1/2 pounds.
Thank you to the Wye and Usk foundation and to Colin for strimming the swim.
