A lovely, easily accessible beat (for 4x4s) with parking at the riverside.
I fished for trout on a dry, overcast day with a very chilly wind. I only had a salmon parr (using a PTN) to show for my efforts. There were fish rising at the car park pool but, frustratingly, I couldn't present a dry fly properly due to the wind direction.
I'd like to have another crack at this beat on a warmer, less windy day

Not the warmest of April days. Allocated the top beat in the morning. I must admit I find the very deep gutters and pools on this stretch difficult to fish unless fish are on the surface, which they weren’t. However, there is a nice riffle at the top which can provide a good couple of hours fishing, usually productive, but not on this occasion.
Switched to the bottom beat around 2 ish, caught an 8oz fish, followed by a 12oz fish, both in the faster water on a gold beaded nymph. Quite cold by now, so thinking about the long drive back to Kent, at which point I hooked a very nice fish 2½ to 3 LB. took me about 20 minutes to get it in. In attempting to carry the fish back out to the faster water to revive it, I slipped on a rock and took a dip. Decided to call it a day.
The odd fly coming off but nothing that could be described as a hatch.

Near perfect day. River level very good, wind southerly, birds singing, flowers flowering, flies hatching, trout rising (well a few anyway). Best fly, GRHE nymph. But a dry Kites Imperial got one on the surface when there were a few Large Dark Olives about.

Fished from 6pm until 8pm. Beautiful evening and beautiful location but no fish seen. Wading easier on this occasion because less flow but even so full waders would have been a better than the thigh waders I elected to use. Tried a CDC Emerger pattern and then a black foam and white antron winged dry fly. Probably should have switched to a nymph, but treated the session as a casting practice. Brambles becoming problematic in places and the winter spate has washed away some sections of the banks - principally the left bank. Annoying that the access styles have barbed wire stretched across the top. Would it be permissible to tie some rubber tubing over this barbed wire?

One of those strange fishing days. Beautiful day, river clear with good flow, steady hatch of various flies but nothing rising. Tried a range of options but river just seemed dead. About to give up at 4.30pm when I saw one rise in one of the last pools and promptly landed 2 at 10" and 1 at 12" on a sparsely dressed march brown nymph under a klink, all in 10 minutes without having to move. Then missed a splashy rise to the klink, and all went quiet again. Can't explain what happened, but came home happy!

Fished this for the first time on a beautiful sunny spring day. River was a good height and clearing. A few insects were hatching but nothing rose to them. Four trout to a small gold headed PTN with the largest 12oz. A few hours work to tidy the river of winter debris would make dry fly fishing easier but perhaps that is cheating?
