First time on this beat enjoyed a pub lunch at the pub overlooking the beat then fished with my son from 2:30pm - 7:30pm. Some of the hardest fighting barbel ever up to 8lb caught on groundbait and pellet in swimfeeder. Really great day thank you. Lost several fish also due to hook pulls.

First visit to this stretch. Although info states that access is good, found that my car grounded continually on the tall vegetation, so owners of nicer cars should take care. Also, whilst the stretch is almost two miles in length, there seemed to be no more than half a dozen accessible swims. It is however a lovely stretch and allowed me a prolonged trotting session that produced many chub, two dace and a barbel to sweetcorn. Would like to return when the vegetation dies back a bit and allows the stretch to be explored fully.

11 Barbel and at least that number of Chub caught. Chub caught both ledgering and on the float. A good day. Nice venue although a few more swims cleared on the top half of the stretch would be welcome.

Very frustrating day! After reading recent reports of great catches here, I thought we were in for a busy one - but the fish obviously had other ideas. An early start and 12 hours of fishing with just one barbel of 6-7lbs to show for it. Not exactly a stunning performance but no walk of shame at least.
Fishing opposite the gardens, using a variety of baits, we saw no sign of fish until around 4pm, at which point began an endless string of very tentative single plucks but barely anything worth striking at. 3 slightly bolder takes resulted in 3 fish hooked and lost, of which one snapped off, the other two slipping the barbless hook.
In hindsight, it may have been wiser to arrive later and fish the evening through til dark instead of plugging away all day, especially as the constant flow of canoeists dried up by about 4pm. By 8pm, feeling a bit puzzled & deflated, we called time.
Hey ho, another lovely day on the Wye. Just not one to write home about.

River now low and crystal clear, trout easily spooked in the bright sun. Nothing rising, even when I had to leave at 7.15pm with a good hatch in progress. Managed to tempt one trout from some of the deeper runs and landed 7, all on small paras. All between 5" and 9". Glorious weather and scenery, can't beat it!

5 and 8 inch wbt in 5 hours. Super summers day. Changed from 7ft to 5ft rod after short time. Successful fly was black emerger. Steep learning curve for me. First time on this beat, not sure where it ended on the map?

Fished from 4.30pm. All quiet so started with small PTN on long leader and 2nd cast produced a 14" OOS Grayling! Soon after 6pm some sporadic rises so changed to dry and during the evening success with 3 trout (10-13") and 2 further small grayling. All taken on a sedge pattern though the visible fly life was mainly black gnats, medium olives and mayflies. Larger fish taken 1lb 4oz. Home contented in the dark.

First time on this new beat, the banks are high and steep but access to the water is not really a problem. All fish caught on pellet and feeder tactics. I tried trotting pellets but with no luck. The owner of the beat came over to say hello and ask how we got on when we were loading the car at the end of the day. So many thanks to him for allowing us anglers access to his own little piece of heaven and also thanks to the WUF.
