River low, cloudy for most of the day with more sun in the pm. Hard work for 2 Barbel on pellet, at the start and end of the day. The island in the middle of the beat was well used at lunch time when 20 canoeists landed which made the fast run a no fish zone for a long while.
WUF Note: Even though there is a right of navigation on this section of the Wye, canoeists are only permitted to land on private property in emergencies. The urge for a sandwich would not qualify as such. Hire companies are now meant to have identifiable boats as part of their registration scheme. If you come across this sort of behaviour (or any other that is in breach of the code of conduct) and the canoes or group are identifiable, please let us know and we will forward it on to the navigation authority.

Arrived 12ish overcast and a few spots of rain, fished swim road side, mid river with straight link lead, size 8 barbless and corn and spam on the hook, loose feeding corn and hemp.
Constantly fed and had Barbel first cast of about 5lbs kept loose feeding and took 3 Chub in succession to 4lbs then the sun appeared and it died a death, took a walk to end swim and fed with the same ....(for a bit of trotting later) ...tried some meat in original swim again, instant reply from a 2lbs + Eel and then another and another ...re-tackle time twice !! Back to the corn and it payed off with another 3 Barbel over the next hour. Moved down to end swim around 4-30 fed corn and hemp and trotted single grain under a Dave Harrell stubby waggler took 4 old gold warrior Chub to 4.5lbs.....lovely day again and a nice chat with the beat owner to round it off. Left 6:30 as sun was low and even with sunglasses seeing the float was near impossible.....learn't a bit in the clear waters feeding chub and Barbel off the bridge, with trout pellet before I left.

Beat:Bideford Brook
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
8 x trout 6-10 inches on Rusty Klinkhammer. A Friday evening on the Bideford Brook made a perfect antidote to a week spent stuck inside a classroom. It was tough going though, with very low, clear and slow moving water and spooky trout mostly on the pool tails. What saved the day was a strong hot wind, which actually produced a big ripple on several of the larger pools - most unusual on this sheltered stream. On running water or on still, for trout, sea trout or salmon, it's remarkable what you can get away with when the surface is rippled.

First time fishing this beat, had a cheeky pair of hours to spare in the evening as grandparents had the kids and wife out on a hen do! What a lovely way to spend an evening, was going to go to Arrow Mill but it was already booked so I came here instead. Great beat just like all the others I've fished so far. One trout and one grayling both returned and lost a cracking brownie in the rapids! Would have been nice to catch on dries but surprisingly little in the way of rising fish. Both fish taken on ptn pattern. Happy chappy off to bed to dream of the next wuf beat!

River low and clear and a bright sunlit evening. Very easy to disturb pools when wading. However, got rises to small dry flies in the streamy water. Missed most of these, hooked one 6" brownie.

The weather was warm and overcast, the water was low, both myself and JC lost a barbel early in the session. We moved to Boys Rock and fished groundbait and pellet, but only small bites, then I changed to meatballs on the hook and straight away the rod pulled around and a 10lbs 2ozs barbel came to the net. All together we had 5 barbel between 7lbs 4ozs and 10lbs 2ozs, 2 chub around 3.5lbs, so a good days fishing.
