A bit cold and overcast but river in good condition. Not much happening, one hatch all day and nothing rising. Tried various methods but alas no fish. Nice beat and easy parking. Have booked again for later this week so will see what happens.

Was in the water for 11.30 and not a touch for an hour then for 3 hours was some quality nymphing. All fish taken in pacey water with trout to 14 inches and grayling to a huge 18+ inches which has given me a p.b. Most of the grayling caught were big 14-16 inches but this one fish was a belter. All fish today were released safely and had to remove a barbed hook from one of the grayling.
Nothing rising to the ldo's that were trickling off during the outbreaks of sunshine. All taking 3mm black tungsten beaded olive nymph size 14. Also a small flurry of grannoms but not many.
9 Trout, 15 Grayling

A disappointing day really... there was a very brief hatch of olives about midday and some trout appeared, but after 5 minutes it was over for the rest of the day. Roll on Spring..!

Would be helpful if a gillie was present to show the pools, wading line, and main lies.
On booking I understood a gillie would be their just to show the pools. Quite a difficult water to read when high, and you'v never fished it before. Also no other fishers to ask.
On the booking page I understood a gillie was present, not so, this comes at extra cost, I think this should be made clear. I fished the Monday alone, and on Tuesday with 2 lads, they also had same problem, and told me they were told a gillie would pop down to show us the beat.
WUF Note: Goodrich Court's gillie is quite often present at the fishery but is not guaranteed to be there every day. Both the website and details received once a booking is made state that anglers either have to call the Foundation or the gillie himself to ensure that he is on hand to give advice and guidance.

Partially sunny, no wind, river low and clear. Trickle of olives from mid-morning, slightly bigger hatch at around 2pm and some trout showing then. Caught 1 on dry fly then, and one earlier on a nymph.

River low and clear, weather partially sunny, no wind. A few trout showing to a small number of olives hatching through the morning and early afternoon. Caught two good trout on nymphs both in the shallows on the inner part of a bend.

Lovely beat with lots of nice looking water but didn't catch or see a rising fish all day. Only saw a brief flurry of upwings around lunch time but these went un-disturbed by the fish. Enjoyed the day and the spring sunshine but will probably keep my powder dry on returning until the weather warms up and hatches become more consistent. Good to be back on the Usk!

The river was quite low. I was using nymphs and dry fly and did not have a bite - I was fishing around mid-day as it is the beginning of the season. I did not see any fish rising.
