3 x trout 6-8 inches, Rusty Klinkhammer. At the end of an exceptionally warm autumn day, I spent just an hour before dark doing the bottom 100 yards. I guess that will be the last time this year. Farmer also using the last of the light to plough up the field on the right bank.

Beat:Lower Symonds Yat

Fishing:Salmon

I had a great day on the Wye at Lower Symonds Yat. The water was quite low and the weather was warm, over cast initially then clearing with some sun coming through. I focused on the pools from Slaughter Crib to Biblins Run in the morning and caught a coloured cock fish (80cm long, estimated at around 12 lb) just under the bridge in the Camp Run at around midday. It was caught on a cascade pattern.
These pools are great fly water and with the river levels quite low, the wading is pretty straight forward. In the afternoon I went to Martins Bar and Martins Pool, where there were a lot of fish showing. These pools are much more tricky with the fly.
This is a great beat in a magnificent setting. Being October and a Friday I only encountered 2 canoes, which both passed by respectfully.

Conditions perfect but for some reason this beat is not the same? 2 barbel caught on krill pellet with feeder mid morning and then nothing all day & evening.

River running low with a small amount of colour on it, and on the drop.
Fishing was hard going (I have fished this river since I was 17 years of age) - all fish fell to one angler to 10mm single halibut pellet and blockend feeder with hemp. The 2 chub were between 2.5lb and 3lb and both barbel were of a good stamp one just under 8lb and the other weighed in at 8lb 8oz.

All in all hard going, but an enjoyable days fishing in beautiful surroundings, and it is without doubt still my favorite River to fish !
