First visit to the Wye and use of the Wye and Usk booking facility. So I guess I didn't expect much and more of an exploratory. I fished for little more than four hours having spent some time walking a short part of the beat. I would recommend to anyone coming for the first time to do likewise.

Saw a few large fish in the clear water but they wouldn't tolerate sharing the river despite our best ninja impersonations. Didn't see any smaller fish at all but plenty of goosander about. Could these facts be related?

It was overcast with light rain and conditions looked good. My son managed two barbel a 7lb 7oz and 10lb 8oz during daylight, I had a perch of about a pound. Same as previous day, as light went I caught four barbel in two hours to 8lb 14oz. Very enjoyable trip.

I arrived in the early afternoon to find the river looking good with a decent flow and a bit of colour Weather was mild, overcast, with light rain at first. First cast brought a small barbel and the next a fish lost when the hook length broke. After a couple of hours I had netted four barbel and then the swim went quiet, with only a small chub until evening when three more barbel were landed. Altogether a very good session with the best fish going 8.12. Halibut pellet and meat were the successful baits, fished on the bottom.

Good day on this lovely beat. Tricky conditions with hot, bright weather and low, clear water but still managed to catch a few. Really like How Caple and will be back soon.
