The weather was patchy rain and some heavy rain throughout the day. Both fish were caught while ledgering (Barbel using a feeder, Chub using weight). Both fish caught on luncheon meat.

Typical British weather - the day mixed with bright sunshine, blustery wind and rain, with a deluge mid morning and I mean a real squall ! River started in nice condition with colour but rising and up nearly 2 feet by the time we finished. As a consequence of rising river and high winds, a lot of rubbish floating through which meant close in fishing for most of the day. One nice Barbel 9LB and 14 chub 2LB to 5LB, most of which came through the day close bank fishing on meat and pellet. A really nice venue and although our previous visit heralded a lot more Barbel, I think the conditions today had an effect. We will be back, although to finish the day hiking back up the path to the layby is not for the unfit folk !!

First time on this beat which has ample parking and a flat walk to the river, until you want to fish downstream that is! Our eldest member is in his 70s but a regular golfer and he found the hill tough but manageable. He says he would return but wouldn't tackle the wood again due to the clamber down to the swims - I am NOT a mountain goat - even though he brought a rope.
Conditions wise, it was overcast with an almost warm breeze but the water was very clear. Across the day we fished the 3 swims in the wood, the bottom swim in the meadow and 3 swims above the hut on pellet, GB feeder or rolling baits and a variety of hook baits. Our only return was 4 chub, all in the wood.

It was a rainy day so many of the swims were difficult to access due to the steep mud banks getting slippy. We couldn't fish the wooded swims due to other anglers fishing them despite us booking all 4 tickets for this stretch (it seems the stretch was double booked?). Anyway, all the barbel caught were small - between 0.5-1.5lbs. Caught two decent chub - one over 4lb and the other over 3lb. The other two chub were on the smaller side (around 1lb).
Fishing Passport Note : If you encounter other anglers fishing when you suspect they should not be present, please call the Booking Office immediately. The beat was not double booked.
