Completed all the morning chores I wanted to do in the garden , dog suitably walked , and all the necessary bits and bobs all sorted , this callsign was ready for a quick session on the Arrow ….. drove to the Whittern pull in , and a car was there , a blue focus I think , had no wild streams permit displayed , and I can’t remember having seen it booked up last night to be honest , anyway , did an about turn and headed for the Kington beat , which I hadn’t done for a while anyway ……
Strew she was low too , but there are some nice pools here so tackled up and did the moonwalk under the bridge to the first pool , which I know is generally a banker … Para Iron Blue was my chosen dry , and first cast , bang …….missed him , had another go , splashy take , this time on , great , no monster , but gorgeous red spots as always , only eight inches quickly released …. Onwards ….
The next four were like peas in a pod , all about eight inches , but great takes to the dry , all prospected casting , with some missed ones too , and a better fish I had on for about three seconds !!!! That huge ash tree is still a major nuisance to cross , and it would be over the deepest dam section wouldn’t it …. WUF , can this be chainsawed … I realise it’s all money , but perhaps a section just cut out so it’s passable . You can’t go field side , it’s two metres heigh with brambles , and the other side is too steep …. It’s been here a while now , one has been dealt with further up , that’s was about fifty yards down from the weir , good job done there too !!! I’m presuming maybe Kington angling club cleared it ?????
Anyway , assault course aside , fishing was hard going but still fun , and fish prepared to come up in the deep pools and hammer the dry , so much so I should have doubled the tally really , some really took me by surprise , but was quite happy with five , from a shrunken Arrow …. I did have a break after grappling climbing over that ash tree , flipping stones and catching bullheads in my net …. Took me right back to lazy afternoons when I was a young lad in Morda Brook or in the Cynllaith catching bullheads and minnows there …. Plenty in the Arrow too , and it seemed that most big fly stones lifted carefully there was a bully or two ….. oh hand plenty of caddies , in fact hundreds …….
A pleasant three hours on an old stomping ground , good sport too , don’t you just love a lazy few hours mooching upstream on a Saturday ……. Sorted !!!!!!!
