Warm day with sunny intervals, very little wind, river very low and clear.

Very little in the way of insect life coming off the water, but quite a few sporadic rises not a clue what they were taking though.

Two caught on dry one on nymph

River low, gin clear, bright sun. 3 wbt on waterhem bloa early afternoon. Then fish started feeding on something else and no amount of fly changes revealed what it was. Plenty of fish action.
Lovely part of the world.

River very low and gin clear . Trout seemed to be held up in any deeper sections of the river . Nymphing produced nothing in the streamy water . All trout were on dries after 1 pm targeting the limited rising fish . All came to size 18 midge patterns . I noticed a swirl in one of the pools and a huge salmon went fully airborne , without doubt the biggest salmon I've seen for a long time. Estimate would be in the 30lb - 40lb range .

One beautifully marked brown trout of about 1 1/2 lbs- generally slow fishing in bright sun but a change of tactics to a dry caddis fly changed things dramatically with 1 fish landed and 2 lost all in 1 hour

Changeable weather meant fishing was tough. Bright sunshine then thunderstorm and rain. Smaller trout taking dries in the larger pools but bigger fishing holding in the fast water towards the top of the beat.

Took my son along for his first foray into wild stream fishing, I think he was more impressed with the setting than the prospect of catching fish!!!!!
Arrived about 10.00 am and plenty of fly life on the water, river very low and gin clear, it was going to be a tough day!
Searched all the usual lies, foam lines, riffles, rocks, undercut banks, nothing doing. Two 8” beauties taken on GRHE in the slackest water you could imagine!!
A few mayflies coming off but anything rising seemed to be far more interested in the smaller up wings coming off, but couldn’t get closer than 20’ without them disappearing, will need a far stealthier angler than me to catch them!!
An excellent day spent on one of my favourite beats, such a beautiful place to spend a day and my son thoroughly enjoyed it.

After a heavy shower, an excellent evening hatch and rise, 7.30 to 9.30, which I matched fairly well using an Usk Jingler (14) - emerger pattern? Three fish of about 16 inches, and one of 19 inches (2.5+ lbs), the rest mostly around a pound.
