Better day today despite the warming up in temperature. Lost one other barbel and we were pleased with our efforts after yesterday's blank day. We chose the bottom end of the fishery today. 3 chub from the beach section under the shadow of Goodrich castle. Beautiful setting on a wonderful summer's day. Always enjoy the peace and quiet of this fishery. Will be back. Pellets presented with PVA mesh did the trick today.

A guiding day for me today..... knowing it was going to be a tricky one !!! Hot, with low water ....We are in serious need of some decent rainfall, I'll be taking clients after this next heatwave on the River Elan, and Afon Claerwen, where it remains cool .... That said I dip tested the Ithon at half ten when we got into the river ... Reading 15 degrees, so not toooooo bad at the moment !!!
John applied himself superbly and, in fairness with most of thf beat averaging a foot deep, and clear as tap water, I'd defy anyone to fish it any better ...Im the master of small stream stealth, but, I've gotta say John waded carefully, casted delicately, and did a dam good job overall, of fishing a stream in incredibly difficult conditions . Low low low !!! Dru flies all the way up !! Impressive angling I'd say ..
Ohhhhhhhhhh, and for lunch, John pulled out of his cool bag a lovely cold cider, and a bloody delicious butchers pork pie ...Just topped off a cracking guiding day on the wild stream ....Two fish caught on the dries, a staunch performance in the face of adversity!!! I must say, a superb river day, lots learnt, and lots of river trips in the future .... A cracking country gent and someone you could quite easily chat with all day , wether it be about angling or shooting !! A superb day on one of my old favourite beats ...... Lovely job !!!

Returned to this stunning upper beat today albeit the wrong time of year, the wrong time of day (11-3) and extremely low and clear conditions. Water temp @ 17.5deg. A few fish spotted (and spooked) in the bedrock gulleys, along with kingfisher, dippers, otter, mink and even a Little owl returning home with it's catch. Managed two fish on a dry dropper. One on the olive klink, and one on a s.18 gammarus below. I'll settle for that.

Not a touch, rolled meat for 3 hrs, then far bank gulley on feeder and pellet until 4pm. Didn’t see a fish roll. Very quiet. But lovely scenery.
