27 x trout 6-11 inches, Rusty Klinkhammer, Monnow Gosling. A rather cold, dull, windy afternoon with the brook high coloured after a cloudburst yesterday. However, the mayfly were up and so I changed to a bigger fly with good results.

Yet another superb day on this wonderful river. Insects of various species and sizes hatched all day. Lots of rising fish but for the most part they were focusing on the small stuff and even then mostly sub surface. Once the code was broken, the results were spectacular. Best fish 20”, 1x 17.5”, 3x 16” and the rest in the 14”-11” range. Most caught on a #18 para emerger on 6X tippet. Heart pounding stuff !

I fished beats 3,4 and 5 unfortunately no fish caught. I used a yellow 15gr FC and a few Finnish made spoons

A little bit of rain has freshened it up slightly. Really needs a good downpour to wash it through to clear the algae and slime. A very chilly May evening but the fish were biting!

Could someone please indicate on or please explain in the Beat notes how you access the bottom of the fishing beyond beech Pool as access proved to be impossible.

River risen 18inches overnight!

Arrived late afternoon to be greeted by a cold howling downstream gale which deterred any fish from rising. The wind relented late in the evening and the flat part of the pool above the weir was covered in BWO’s. Fish started to rise everywhere, technically very hard but managed three before it it was time to pack up.
