Beat:Ty-Newydd & Gromain (upper Wye)

About 40 between the 5 of us but mainly very small trout. A couple of decent grayling and one decent trout (about 1lb or so). A hard day, river very low and a cool downstream wind most of the time. Wading very tricky with rocks covered in brown slime - 3 of us went in!

Fish came to a full range of approaches - dries, nymph, NZ style and downstream spiders.

A very peaceful and beautiful stretch but with somewhat limited access. One of our party had never caught a Barbel but eventually did. Total of 4 Barbel and 2 Chub to pellet or corn (3 rods).

Beat:Bridge Meadow

No. of Anglers:1

Started with the fly but river too high and coloured. Switched to a silver mepps and took several trout, the largest nudging three pounds, all returned. Hooked a salmon that looked about six or seven pounds but lost him after about ten seconds. Conditons should be perfect for the start of next week.

Beat:Pantyscallog (River Usk)

One small trout just below the bridge. Rest of the beat (including the Crai) seemed devoid of insect and fish life -- surprising in view of the calm, occasionally sunny weather. Nice day out and beautiful surroundings.
Will do it all again some day...earlier in the season.

Beat:Cilwych (Usk)

What a wonderfull beat, the river was in fantastic condition. Access was easy and the entire beat easly fished. Two fish taken to nymphs, although fish were riseing, both returned.

Thanks for the opportunity to fish this superb beat, I hope to be back next week!

Beat:Court of Noke (River Arrow) R28

Thought I would get out before end of trout season and what a day I had! Great weather, warm, sunny and hardly any wind, more or less perfect.

Had a decent grayling, approx 13ins within first 5 mins on a gb ptn followed by another off the same pool approx same size. I followed this with a trout of 10-11 ins. The river was very low and clear which helped me access one of the deeper pools I hadn't been able to get at before. I was rewarded with 2 large grayling, I would guess the best was over 2 lbs,( it was far bigger than my scoop net!) the other not far behind. Both fish taken on flash-back shrimp fished Czech-style. Had several more graying and one more trout during day.

Fish rising all day, mainly grayling I think. Couldn't work out what they were taking, no noticable fly hatch. Missed more than I hooked. Managed 4 to the dry. Total 12 or so grayling and 2 Trout. All returned.

Beat:Dinas & Abercynrig on the Usk....

Beat:Sheephouse (River Wye)

3 coarse rods fished Sheephouse for the first time, originaly was to have been 5 rods but two were unable to make the trip. Only fished the middle beat both upstream and downstream of the hut, was unable to progress any further than the cottage downstream or past the first meadow upstream due to overgrown bank vegitation. Total fish caught between three rods - 8 Chub to 4lb's 10oz, 2 Barbel biggest 7lb 12oz. Enjoyable day but slow and hard going, probably due to the low clear river.
