Unfortunately we didn't manage any of the grayling, but did manage 3 out of season brown trout all around the 1lb to 1 1/2lb mark and dropped many, many more. All the fish were safely returned. Fishing small heavy bugs, a heavy weight ptn working well. Thank you for a trouble free and enjoyable day. We will be back soon.

Explored the upper part of this beat and had a good day with 10 grayling caught. I started by taking 3 around 10" in a gravelly run during the morning and then moved upstream to a large pool. I took 7 in quick succession here, all around the 1 pound mark. Successful fly was a brown Klinkhammer, nymphs were ignored. A ducking in the cold water curtailed my visit, otherwise I'm sure I would have caught more. All in all a memorable day.

Fished at bottom of beat on advice fron Rudi, also met Don the owner, both very helpfull.
River runs very fast & really had to step up the weight of my feeder to hold bottom. Problem with weed as ever which meant casting every few minutes. Finished up with 5 barbel & lost 2 in the same snag, probably rocks. Great day on the Wye as ever, many thanks to WUF.

Area:Middle Wye

Beat:Middle Ballingham & Fownhope No.8

Fishing:Coarse

No. of Anglers:1

Started by the old railway bridge, very low and clear, also quite snaggy. Had 1 barbel to pellet in 3 hours before moving downstream below Carey brook. This move prompted better sport just past the shallows and added 1 more barbel and 7 chub - all caught on pellet. Bit more rain needed for near perfect conditions.

River started to fall overnight but temperatures fell very low. This first cold snap of autumn will probably put the barbel off. Yes and so it proved to be, good job the odd chub were not put off. I took 2 fish on roving tactics, both about 4lb while my brother in law took a fish right at the death of 5lb - all taken on meat.
