First time grayling fishing. Had a good description of the waters and pools etc from Mr Picton near the house where you park. Cold day, didn't rise much above 1 degree, ice on some of the flat waters. Waters although not in flood, were running fast and I would advise a wading staff as the current can be rather nerve racking at times.
Caught 4 Grayling, 2 around 3/4lb mark and 2 around 1.5lb, all caught on size 16 pink shrimp. All caught in a pool close to the far bank upstream on the islands within about 1 hour. Other than that very difficult to see where the fish may be lying.
I know it's towards the end of the Grayling season now, but it's given me a taster for it and I shall definitely be back to the Irfon for the trout and Oct/Nov for the grayling. A great day out in beautiful surroundings.

A bitterly cold day with ice in the rod rings causing problems most of the session. It had been -8 degrees overnight. River up somewhat, pushing through and with a little more colour than we would have liked. Difficult to locate the fish but we managed about 35 grayling between us up to about 1lb 12oz.

Two pike to double figures. Another great stretch. It would have been nice to have fished a full day but had to leave early because of the weather.

My Mate and I fished the Cammarach Hotel beats, the river level looked fairly low which would be ok for Grayling. The temperature unfortunatley was -11 but did warm up to -2 during the day. Didn't manage to catch anything but lovely river to fish when the weather's right.

34 x grayling 11-18 inches, long trotting with centre pin. Raw weather with snow on the hills and the odd flake falling, but the river was in nice condition and almost too clear. Proper cold grayling conditions, in fact, with the fish packed in tightly together, but it was just warm enough to trot properly. There is the world of difference between plus one degree, when the tackle works as it is designed to do, and minus one degree, when the rod locks up with ice. Lovely fish on the Irfon today, most of them over 15 inches, plenty at 16 inches, several at 17 inches, one at 18 inches. A very nice day's sport, but it was good to get back to the car and hot coffee.
