Day One of a two day, end of season outing and our first experience of this beat. Heavy rain earlier in the week meant that the river was full and flowing swiftly but mercifully clear. Several hours of determined fishing resulted in five fish, the best of which was in the region of 1.5lbs. Most came to a team of wets fished down and across with Coch-y-Bondhu being the favoured fly. Towards dusk upstream nymphing became viable with one fine fish coming to a Diawl Bach.

"The Clochfaen", very close to the beat is comfortable and provides a friendly welcome. Kevin set us up for our second day at Llyn Bugeilyn with an excellent and enormous breakfast.

The weather and water looked pretty good as we started out at around 10:00. Despite our best efforts, none of us managed to catch. Our main excitement during the day was when D fell into the river and got soaked, and I fell onto my face on the bank, injuring my nose and breaking the tip of my rod. We tried all methods, and only D managed to come close to fish whilst fishing dry flies in response to a very few rises. Better luck next time perhaps.

Last day on the Wye, we arrived to the water early and with more confidence than the two previous days blanking efforts. The river was around 2.4 m but was slightly rising until around 4pm. We met Don who was most helpful and was convinced we would catch just down the inside. However after 10 hours we had not had a bite 3 rods, which when people were catching above us and below raised the question what are we doing wrong? We had fed pellet like instructed every ten minutes and hair rigged pellet, the only thing i can think is we were fishing braid which limited how far we could hold bottom, lessons learnt hopefully next year we will meet the river in better condition and have better tactics.

We had a great day in the sun. Pretty surroundings great water but we failed to catch any fish,but we do that quite often. Saves catch and release if none come to hand. Thanks to the Wye and Usk girls who always make us so welcome.

None as the beat was unfishable due to the weather. So,I did not go and I was told that refunds are not possible. Could not postpone to another date as I was on holiday -I live near Cambridge. On the previous Monday I was due to go on the same beat with Gareth Lewis and it was a wash-off. He has probably been in touch with you.

Very difficult, river very high and virtually unfishable. Only one barbel between the 2 rods.

An excellent day. River falling and clearing despite heavy rain showers. Good hatches of various olives...autumn dun and smaller olives. Caught 25 trout from 1/4 to 1lb on nymph and dry fly. Interestingly larger fish not in evidence.

River high and muddy, tried a variety of pegs and tactics but to no avail,not a single bite.

River high and coloured, borderline unfishable, but we gave it a go. Searching out the deeper pots and eddys, we managed 3 grayling and a couple of WBT on heavy shrimp and peeping caddis patterns. Nothing big but any catch in the conditions felt like a victory.
