On Weds 3rd I had just one fish a 8.5 lb barbel on a bookie.
I also fished on 4th and again had just one fish, a 3lb chub on bread flake.
Conditions were difficult with high and fast flowing water but we all enjoyed it. The barbel were in fine condition but did have about a 3 inch groove on both sides just in front of the wrist of the tail. Looked like a healed wound. Could this have been from an otter.
Don the bailiff who came round was most pleasant to talk to and helpful. Would like to go again sometime in easier conditions.

The river was a few feet up and coloured. Both rods ledgered with sweetcorn, luncheon meat, pellets with crab paste. Five fish landed including 3 barbel, biggest 7lb 10oz and two chub, four fish lost in snags. All in all a good day given the conditions.

Disappointingly blank, but not a lot I or anyone else could do about it. Overnight rain continued to hammer down all day and Wyebank offers few options when river is moving like an express train across its width. Made a token gesture, but even Don's suggestion that the only swim offering a chance was the slack water by the level markers didn't produce. Hard to stay cheerful with rain running down your neck and the prospects of a fish remote. Packed up musing the cost of a two-day Wye trip in which I'd fished effectively for only a quarter of the paid-for time.Cheered up on way home, reflecting that with 70th birthday coming up, another completed outing on the lovely Wye is a bonus.

Beat:The Rectory Fishery
Fishing:Salmon
No. of Anglers:1
Had a go from 12pm until 5pm. Not much fun though, very wet and windy and river rose 4" while I was there. Clarity not great, just over a foot or so I would think. Did see 2 coloured 10 pounders in the top of the rock pool. Other points of interest were an otter working the Bridge Pool and a tailess (bob-tailed) fox working the far bank at the Gravel Catch and then sheltering by the dying Oak tree.
