River low and clear, saw very little fish movement. We tried several spots but with little success. For a water that can normally produce some good catches a very disappointing day, especially at the increased price.

Seemed like a perfect weather day, misty start followed by sun with little breeze. Water peaty coloured, possibly from the tannin in the falling oak leaves. Plenty of those!
Fished from 7.30 to 11.30 then from 14.30 to 18.30 on the whole beat where wading and casting was easiest. Or rather, I practiced my casting for those hours. Tried all the dries on the menu and a few nymphs but not a single take.
Highlight of the day was an otter staring at me from about four feet away but he didn't offer any advice. Just a nice day to out there.

Beat:Doldowlod
Fishing:All Species (in season)
No. of Anglers:1
6 x grayling 12-17 inches, Grayling Steel Blue. I made a serious mistake today, neglecting to put my wading staff in the car. It's a known fact in my house that I can be a little vague in the mornings before breakfast. Doldowlod is one of the places where you really do need a staff - at least at my age you do. I therefore opted not to play around with nymphs in the pocket water upstream but hung around the deep pools and gutters lower down. When I saw something rise, I had a pop at it with the dry fly. There are still really nice grayling at Doldowlod: two at 17 inches and two at 16 inches. Unfortunately it went rather quiet when the sun started to shine after lunch, but still a very nice day.
