Fished down left bank from the top from 0900, spinning as water level was quite high (1'6') but falling - wading is ok but banks are wet mud so take care. Island fishing well, good for fly or spinners. Kelt caught & returned on spinner (red flying C) - 28 inches long / 7lbs in The Maddox in early pm - just where the notes say the hot-spot is located, 15-20 yards downstream of the rocks. Had a tug or two on the fly in the Vanstone later in the afternoon. Sunny, windy but not much rain - looking forward to my next outing.

Worked my way up stream and caught mostly on weighted PTN, had last fish on a emerger pattern as I saw the odd fish rising to the Large dark olives hatching off.

Managed 2 hours late in the afternoon. Fished rock pool in a cold, wintery upstream wind. No sign of fish.

Excellent fly water but a tad on the high side. Caught a surprise 12 or so pound pike and a 7lb kelt on the fly. Other than caught fish I didn't see others. Did though sit and watch kites, buzzards, a mink and canoes.

Blank. First time I have fished Caradoc, and the owner and gillie Jerry were both extremely helpful. I found a deep upper section, casting from cribs and generally suitable for spinning (which I duly did), but some interesting fly water at the bottom end, with wading about as easy as it gets. You can drive the whole section. A day of sunshine and storms, and a whole succession of single and double rainbows, one of which distinctly ended in the river. No, it didn't mark the location of a silver springer!

The beat and weather got the better of us on the day. 7deg C as we arrived, and the day brought only strong winds and rain rather than an increase in temperature.
A beautiful stretch of river, probably a foot below normal level and crystal clear. Only a few small pools were located, but there were no signs of fish throughout the day. A small brief hatch at about 1pm brought a little hope but no rises. Access to river difficult for some sections and a proliferation of barbed wire so watch the waders!

Beat:Honddu Lower Stanton

Fishing:Trout (River)

The Honddu looks in fine fettle but it was deadly stuff today. Fished from 12pm through until 2pm. No fish moved or seen despite trying every nook and cranny of this great bit of water. There was a dribble of LDOs at around 1pm but nothing to disturb their progress. The water is very cold still. Give it a couple of weeks. Moved on the Middle Escley to try and save the blank!

Thank goodness for this little gem of a brook! A favourite pool yielded 4 fish in half a dozen casts - all to tungsten - including a beautiful 12" fish, quite a size for up here. Wish I'd had more time to fish further on!

Fly & spinning for salmon, but failed to catch any! However a 10-12lb pike took a black flying C at the Corner Tree pool just on the lip of the bankside rocks. Good, strong, health fish, it was returned to the water.
Otherwise, the river was quite high and would we think have fished better with slighly less water and more clarity.

A beautiful stream with lovely pocket water. Unfortunately not the best of days.
