A beautiful beat. Spoke to the young owner, who is an avid ecologist and who is working hard to improve the diversity of wildlife and the health of the river. Much needed rain through the day brought activity from the fish and several small browns came to hand, nothing bigger than about 9 inches though. Hooked into what I first thought was asnag at the bottom end of the beat, but then the snag headed off downstream and came off. By the kiting in the current, a substantial grayling had eluded me. As the rain continued, a slight tinge helped me stay undetected, and as the evening drew in, plenty of rising fish were accessible but matching the hatch proved difficult with a variety of flies big and small coming off. Most fell to a size 14 cdc and elk pattern. The potential of the beat was obvious, so I booked for the next day.
Be warned that the path down the hill from parking is treacherous in the wet!

9.40am 8lb from the Corner. 10.30am 9lb fish from the Cafn Stream. 12.00 12lb fish from Boat pool. All on a Cascade.
This took me past 100 salmon in the catch book at the Nyth and Tyr Celyn. What a way to do it!

It started raining as we arrived and continued all day but the river was in good condition. All trout were caught on a variety of wet flies. The majority were small. Only one was taken. In spite of the rain we had a great time.

1 small brown trout on a buzzer nymph returned, very heavy rain and quite breezy. when I arrived i saw 5 Eastern Europeans fishing they was not using flies they were spinning I could not phone the emergency line as I didn't have a signal, they left after about 20 mins and 3 of them had bags that were full of fish. I know you cannot patrol 24/7 but on the last 4 times I have been fishing I have yet to see a ranger. Poaching is going to kill this Reservoir just like they killed Cantref.
WUF Note: This report has been passed to Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water. We hope that they will be able to step up ranger patrols at this reservoir.

1 x 32 inch cock fish on a size 8 Bann Shrimp from the House Pool. Started with level about 1 foot 5 inches on the gauge and quite clear. However, rain was pretty well relentless from mid-morning on, and the fish came during the first inch or two of rising water. Nice silver one, unfortunately marred by what looked like a seal bite on the tail,

Slow fishing in the morning but an improvement after lunch. All fish approx. 2 to 2.5 lbs.
An enjoyable days fishing but yet again marred by the litter left by others, including two chairs, bottles, cans etc. Why go to a remote and pleasant location and despoil it?
