The previous time I fished this river a couple of years ago the water coloured up so this was a return match. Fished klink and dink with a hares ear on the point. 4 WBT, best at 10 and 12 inches plus 5 Grayling, mainly small but one at 14 inches, which was certainly well recovered from spawning. A thunderstorm stopped play for an hour - I don't like wagging a lightning conductor around during storms.
On another note I dragged up someone's lost leader with a dog nobbler on the end plus a nymph all tied up on about 10lb line. Didn't know salmon ran up the Llynfi!

River fast, no rises.

Called in on the way home but late afternoon thunderstorm had quickly coloured up the river and made top end very dirty. Down at The Grange the flood had not quite arrived but the gentle rise saw at least 5 good sized fish on the move. 2 shad to 2.5 lbs obliged to the fly - does anyone have a salmon fly pattern they don't like? Good luck to you all when it clears.

What a lovely little stream. The wading gets difficult further upstream with quite a few obstacles and some of the pools are deeper than you think. I don’t think I made it to anywhere near the top of the beat. I fished from about 2pm to 7pm. There was quite a bit of fly life in evidence but no fish showing and I couldn’t temp anything on the dry flies. All fish were caught on either a PTN or Hare’s ear nymph and around 4 – 6 inches. Would definitely do this one again.

Dodged the heavy showers and electrical storm but what an interesting place to fish. Not surprisingly little surface activity and lucky to find 4 trout 6-12inches on a deep gold head pheasant tail nymph.

Fly fished the beat down after detailed description from the owner on the phone. Height was 0.9m on the gauge at the bridge, 6" on the Trostrey webcam. Warm and broken cloud - lots of fly life - until about 2pm when the thunder, wind and rain rolled in.
Had a very aggressive 2lb trout early on from the Upper Rocks in quite coloured water. Visibility got lower and lower and the rive came up very slightly. The colour beat me in the end but I had a lovely time nonetheless. I didn't fish much below the bridge but saw a nice fresh fish in the Wood Stream mid river.
One day I will get the water right...

1 Salmon

No hatch, no rise, no fish.

Not much fishing done due to downpour. When the thunder started it was time to stop for fear of lightning.
