I was fishing up stream with a single dry fly, fishing the pocket waters behind boulders and in fast runs. Despite the heavy rain showers and high winds I managed to catch half a dozen small trout before heading off home.

Cool showery day, river low and a bit murky. Nothing rising, landed 7 trout 7" to 10" on small sparsely dressed PTN nymph from various places. Still some hardy campers in a couple of fields!

4.30pm to 8.45pm. Yes it's getting dark earlier! Targeting large chub known to be in area. 14ft trotting rod/C-pin, chubber type float over large luncheon meat to size 8 hook. 7 chub in 3 to 4lb range plus one more weighed at 5lb 6oz. Most were hooked trotting at 30 to 40 yards below the bottom crib. Trout of around 12oz took when retrieving missed bite, spring on hook that I screw meat onto. I waded out but could have fished off end of bottom crib.
These chub seem to be in residence and anyone having a break from swim feeder tactics should try this. These chub go all over the river when hooked and current adds to the fun. 2 other were eel, one older eel dark and bulky possibly around 3lb. Had a bit of a slime fight on the bank but released unharmed. At 8.30pm hooked something that went for Symonds Yat, rapped my fingers on the pin, took 60yds of line in one run, had to lower the rod at lines end or it would have broken and 10lb line parted at knot on reel. Possibly foul hooked large barbel?

Another very difficult day on a perfect beat. The barbel are moving around the beat and finding them is the most important element. Eventually landed 8 beautiful barbel with two being 9lbs plus. Also landed some good chub to just over 5lbs. Had the hook pull out of 3 which is very unusual.
Everyone had a brilliant river Wye experience. Thanks to Don and WUF.

Torrential rain and windy conditions drove us to take shelter on the wooded side of the reservoir which in comparison was becalmed, an area that we had not previously fished. 9 Rainbow trout between 1.5 and 2.5lbs caught on mepps aglia spinners, six returned.
Wish I had taken the fly rod but discounted this upon setting off due to the high winds. Good quality fish.

1 x 8 inch brown trout caught on an Adams circa 4.45pm from the pool just upstream of broken water. Overcast, windy and not a lot of activity on the surface otherwise. Fly hook was not deeply embedded: the fish released easily and swam vigorously away. Very pleasant afternoon. The Bell provided ample compensation for the fact that it was, otherwise, an uneventful one.

First time on the Wye and I'm in love!
Was on a family break, staying in the Cider Mill at Flanesford Priory which was fabulous. Hats off to Nigel, Izzie and Kath.
Fished 4 hours on the morning of the 26th and had 1 barbel then fished the evening on the 27th and had 3 Barbel with one lost. Finally fished the morning of the 29th but blanked. Biggest barbel was 8.75lb, smallest was 5lb.
All fish came to hair rigged pellet fished in conjunction with a cage feeder (3oz) which just about held bottom.
What a fabulous river and already planning the next trip!
