A truly beautiful stretch of the wye. The conditions were sadly not ideal with bright sun and very low water levels. Started at the top of the beat but with the river so low the swims were pretty hard to access. Worked way up to The Island but unfortunately the fishing was thoroughly disturbed by the canoeists all capsizing on the same sunken tree mentioned in an earlier post. Every canoe, without exception, capsized and the disturbance every hour made fishing a bit pointless. I'm not blaming the canoeists - that tree needs to be removed! No fish for me but two chub to my fishing partner. I did, however, manage to net a pristine can of Holsten Pils which was a welcome refreshment in the heat. Will return later in the autumn.

Fished above the bridge in the morning and didn't see a fish, my companion saw numerous fish below the bridge and had a take on a float fished prawn, one nil to Mr salmon!!
Went for a very nice lunch at the Black Bear (highly recommended).
I spun below the bridge in the afternoon but today was just not to be?
Finished the day off with a trout rod and in no time at all had two in the bag, around 3/4 pound apiece and released a further four!
Conditions weren't good for salmon today, clear, very low water but never the less a very enjoyable day spent on the water. Can't wait to come back!

Eight trout on black klinkhammer size #18,color black.
It was beautiful river but a shame that I saw so much rubbish littered on the bank of the downstream beat near Merthyr Vale. I met two other fishermen who had been doing spinning from 4:00AM!

River fairly low but maybe a touch of colour. Happy enough to get 4 barbel under the conditions. All between 6lbs and 8lbs, all fighting fit and all to small pellets or boilies with PVA bags.
Enjoyable day on a very nice fishery. Thank you WUF.

Overcast and warm morning, heavy rain shower at lunchtime leaving A cooler afternoon. The only fish rising were in the lower reaches of the beat, and on mirror water, so very hard to get to them. The one successful take was using a size 12 Klink.

First time on this beat. Caught barbel early and late, chub all day. Feeder and rolling meat. Nice stretch, lots of snags so lost a number of feeders. Caught in every swim, I kept catching throughout the day by moving around, had to work hard for the fish I caught. Lots of canoes as expected, dont mind them apart from the inconsiderate ones who think it's acceptable to moor up 10m away from you splash around, shout and scream. Didn't let it bother me though. Great day.

Arrived at this beautiful beat with perfect conditions after a hearty breakfast (stayed at Sunny Mount Hotel in Ross and they are very accommodating). Each time I come here, I am never disappointed (and I have blanked here!) The tranquil surroundings are, I would say, one of the best I have come across. The ease of access to the entire beat is a massive selling point. The cost however is still out of kilter with the rest of portfolio of the WUF.
The weather changed from overcast to sunshine to fairly heavy showers and back to sunshine. I shared my swim with a Mink that was surprisingly friendly coming to within 4 feet of me on 3 occasions. I also shared the beat with 3 other anglers but we never crossed paths other than a chat when wandering and upon their departure. From their reports they had a good day down on the beach at the bottom of the beat. I settled in to the steps swim about 100 yards short of the fallen tree in the pasture. This stretch of 100 yards is a fish holding area as has been proven before. Started catching chub on the far bank tight up against the bankside vegetation. Had to wait until the sun came out for the first Barbel at 12:05 (7lb 10oz) falling to the Goose Pellet. Further fish followed with one casualty cutting me off against a submerged rock with the best fish of the day taken at around 18:00 hrs weighing 8lb 11oz. Final tally 4 Chub to 3lb 4oz and 6 Barbel. 8 of the 10 fish fell to the Goose Pellet and 2 to Halibut Pellet all fished feeder tactics with hemp, pellet and crushed pellet, with 3 ft hook lengths. This was the last of my 3 venue trip and I would like to thank WUF and the owners for the ease of booking and keeping all of these waters available.
