Fished from dawn til dusk. River level was low but water was clear. Sunny hot conditions made fishing difficult. Caught chub to 5lb but the day was topped off with a 9lb barbel..nice small beat only 2 swims were fishable. A lot of snags so lost a few feeders but overall enjoyed the day. 3 car park spaces right next to the swim.

Hard but enjoyable day. Hook pulled out of barbel early in session. One 6lb fish later in day.

3 Trout, 5 Grayling

Same conditions, beautiful for fishing but not ideal for catching fish! P and myself today and P opted to fish both float and feeder from the first croy. I chose the next croy down to do the same. I started on the float with 8mm pellet and P on the feeder, with no response on the feeder. P switched to the float and caught Chub straight away but despite fishing exactly the same way, I couldn't get a bite and after a couple of hours on the feeder, decided to move upstream to the Oxford run which looked good but was slow with the added problem of lots of floating weed coming down which I'm convinced caused me to pull out of a Barbel about 6pm. Alas a blank for me but P did well with 14 Chub to 4lbs on the float and 2 Barbel and 2 Chub on the feeder.

2 Barbel, 16 Chub

A family affair today with Grandad K, son A and Grandson J, fishing past the bend and again getting bites early and late they caught well with K recording 2 Barbel and 3 Chub,A 2 Barbel and 13 Chub and J once again showing the way with 8 Barbel to 8.01 and 3 Chub to 4.02, groundbait feeder and pellet again the best method.

Fishing at 7.45am on the Little Run beat with an Ally Shrimp, fresh looking fish, cock of about 6lbs which returned well.

6lb 4oz Barbel caught with feeder and pellet at 6.45am at pool at the far end of the beat. Barbel in beautiful condition. Lost two further large fish in rocks. At least 4 large salmon jumping in this pool.

Bright sun, low water made it very difficult. A few rising fish when I started then no sign of life. I got one very nice brown on a Griffiths gnat but that was it.
Some very good stile work - well done WUF!

1 Trout

8 x trout 6-10 inches, Rusty Klinkhammer. It's a while since I did this one. I found it quite difficult fishing until reaching the upper part of the beat. The excuses I can make are a rather chilly early morning start, low clear water, spooky trout lying on the pool tails, etc etc. But never mind the fishing; the important thing, of which I am most proud, is I did the whole beat from the white poles leading into the gorge at the bottom end right up to the top and then tramped back miles on the road through Crickadarn in the midday sun. Maybe I am not as old as I thought was? (Enigmatic smile from my wife who just read this).

Charles Tricks caught his first Wye salmon (10lb) in the Cafn on a trout rod with a fly tied about 20 years ago!
