A cloudy day to start with but cleared by mid afternoon. The margins of the river are full of slime where there is little flow… not good to see. A good few sedges around but only a few upwings… there was an egg laying mayfly spinner doing her best to change that!

Rising Fish seemed to be localised. Plenty of trout around including a very healthy number of small fish - we did have 3 around 17 inches though. Also one which looked nothing like a typical spotty Wye fish … this one just had a few large black spots. All trout carrying argulus lice.

Extending my casting to cover a fish rising towards the far bank I thought I had just better cover the water near a protruding rock. The flu disappeared in to a tiny blip and all hell broke loose as a very large trout breached the surface … and threw the hook! Ah well I know where he is for the next time

Fished 6am to 1pm the middle to lower part of the stretch. Very slow morning with only 3 bites.
The one barbel was around 7lb, caught on pellet.
Not fished this stretch for a number of years and was disappointed to see that many over hanging trees have been taken out. More, easier access pegs, but lacking a lot of the original character.

Fished below the bridge as I had limited time. Water level good and allowed easy wading . Fished the Foam line with a selection of dries, hooked five and missed many more. A very enjoyable couple of hours.
