Fished fly from north bank. Cold east wind. Seems to be very poorly managed these days. Bait fishing seems to have taken over and the place is littered with empty Powerbait containers and other rubbish. If you wish to fish the designated Fly Only area it means walking a good mile as the track is closed to public vehicles. Very poor value for money in my opinion. I shan't bother visiting again.

Nice to be out, but although there was a fair amount of fly about, did not see any fish rising, nor manage to get any interest in my fly! Fairly strong breeze kept it cool, maybe too cold.

This was our first time on this river and what a great beat. The weather was sunny, with an upstream wind.
There were very few rising fish, but I did tempt one to a dry, however the other three came to a beaded PTN.
Not an easy day, but the challenge is why we do it! I wonder how the Heron was getting on, he did look well fed!
Thanks WUF for the great work that you guys do, and for picking this beat for us. This beat has quite a nice variety of water to challenge us all!

Lovely day tempered by a downstream breeze. Spoke with the sheep farmer whose flocks adjoin the river - he says the grass needs some rain soon to keep growing, I think the Monnow would benefit from a drop as well! Very clear river and quite low now. Slow but steady hatch of olives everywhere but few trout rising, just the little ones. Still, had a good day with a tan Klink and small GRHE combo catching 5 to 12" in the heads of pools and faster runs. Nothing doing in the slow glides or pools. The trout were in good condition.

Area:Upper Wye
Beat:Abernant
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:2
Nice sunny day though with a gusty win at times. River very clear and 12" on the Llanstephan gauge. Plenty of flies (medium olives?) coming off the water but very few rising fish. Both anglers caught regularly throughout the day. 8 trout with a best of 15", 4 grayling to 12". The trout were in noticeably better condition than the grayling.
