Much warmer that previous day and far less windy. Virtually no fish seen rising despite a trickle of mayflies, yellow mays and others. Managed 11 trout, from 7 inches to a plump 10 inches plus one oos grayling. Also caught quite a few salmon/trout parr. Fished two nymphs, a copper beaded PTN and a mayfly nymph, caught equally on both.

Another beautiful day on the Usk. However, not ideal fishing conditions. Strong cool breeze and very clear water made it difficult to get a fly anywhere near a fish. Nil return.

Lovely afternoon to be out on the river, even though it was my second choice beat - just got pipped to my preferred option.
Couldn't buy a take today - no obvious reason I could put my finger on. Steady trickle of Mayfly coming off through the afternoon but, bar the Chaffinches, nothing was really interested in them; only saw 3 fish rise.
Still it's never a bad day when you're in such beautiful surroundings. Highlight of the day was having a Red Kite for company on the walk back to the car from the top of the beat - it wheeled and soared overhead for the whole walk back. Wonderful!
6 Mergansers on lower half of the beat.

Fished the Ashford House beat from 11am to 4.15pm. First time on the Usk and I'm also not much used to river fly fishing at all. Nevertheless I took and returned 4 small trout fishing duo. The first 2 took a Hares Ear and Copper on the point and the second 2 took a Parachute Adams on the dropper. Both size 14s.

2 Rods. Almost all taken on dry - caddis and black gnat. Average length 9 in best 11 in.
Great sport very fast fiesta fish probably had further 20+ offers and lost at net. Welsh black finned trout -they have some in the Natural History Museum- trutta nigripinnis. Also see Mr Beers article in T and S re WBF
Fished here before but 3 mile track in worse than ever. Boat house derelict it all looks. Whats going on at Tyn-y-Cornell hotel/ Tal-y-llyn ?
Perhaps W and U should buy the Fishing Rights this is a special place with a unique species of trout not a shad or mussel surely this should be a priority for funds for this but I suppose it needs a run of silver tourists?
If you haven't been its one to try.

Beautiful location with some wonderful walks especially when taking a look around to spot your fishing areas.
Maps could do with a post code however just use the nearby hotels etc and get the post code of the business and head that way.
Lots of flies and nats/midges on the surface and around 7 rises. No action however the furthest lowest part of the beat near the hotel was active. Will try again in a few months.

Fished afternoon and evening. Nothing much happening on arrival so started with an upstream nymph with the result of 2 grayling so went in search of rising fish. These did start to sporadically appear as the afternoon went on. Once carefully approached most were willing to take a dry though some insisted on a change before doing so. Mixture of Parachute Adams,Olive CDC Grey Wulff and Mayfly. Ended up with 5 trout 6-12" with the smallest falling to the largest May in the box! Cool evening and the action ceased at about 9.
