Not helped by hours of heavy rain the previous night. Little sign of rising fish or fly life. No fish caught - but still a beautiful beat.

A couple of hours in the afternoon after rain had stopped. Arrow up a bit and coloured from yesterday.
Managed one 5" trout in slower water above weir on small olive nymph. A couple of snatches at dry fly in weir pool but nothing connected with.

Seven WBT were hard won today and I caught nothing in the 3 hours fished before 1pm. As temperatures rose the fish became more cooperative. There is a new map for this beat which indicates a relatively short section that cannot be fished from either bank. Even with the help of a detailed OS map I was unable to be certain of the start and finish of this section. It wouldn't surprise me if I fished this section and missed out a part that I was allowed to fish! Not sure what the answer is, the beat is so winding and twisting that you quickly lose where you are. If the beat was marked with the STOP and GO signs, then I didn't see them.

First experience of the reservoir. Seemed pretty full but very calm - no ripple / wind at all. Floating line employed with longish leader smal flies @ Southern end around weed areas. A blank but enjoyed the challenge! Will try again.

I DID IT, I GOT TO THE TOP OF THE BEAT!!!!!
After years of trying finally fished to the top of this unfeasibly long beat. Took 9.5 hours, constantly motoring upstream.
However, so intent on completing all 2.5 miles I missed the whole point - to enjoy the fishing. I did manage 8 pristine wbt 8"-12" on dries but really today was about getting to the top. Even ate lunch on the hoof.
I love this beat but it needs to be fished at a more leisurely and measured pace to really savour it. There are some great pools and glides further up holding fish that rarely see a fly I suspect. Next time I will start half way up and fish it to the rhythm of this beautiful spot.
