Another fun day on Wyebank with 35 fish on the bank. We arrived a couple of hours before first light and whilst sitting it out on the bank, awaiting daybreak, we witnessed a pair of otters feeding in the pool. Fished from first light until 8pm and had fish throughout the day but with the bulk of the action coming before 11am and after 4pm. Barbel included two at 8lb 14oz, three +6lb, one +5lb and the rest mostly in the 3-4lb range. The Chub went to 4lb 8oz. To keep the bites coming we had to loose feed pellet and hemp regularly and change methods. We caught on open-ended feeder with pellets and groundbait or scalded pellets moulded around grippa leads. Successful hook baits included Hinders Elips, Bait-Tec Hybrid barbel, Sticky Baits The Krill boilies wrapped in matching paste and scalded Halibut pellets. We struggled to get bites when it was raining or when the sun was shining directly on the run. Canoes were out in force from 11am to 4pm with long periods where we were forced to rest the swim.

Very few fish rising. There was a tough downstream wind. The river was clear and low. 2 fish tried to take the dry fly in the Channel section, but failed to connect. Lovely stretch of the river.

Wonderful stretch with good access and views are excellent. Fishing was tough as the river was low and clear. Fished in the fast section in front of island and deeper runs either side of island with pellets/meat on feeder and rolling meat but only two barbel caught by my colleague, biggest went 9.4lbs. Salmon jumping all day. Would love to fish this section with a couple of more feet on the river and slight colour. However, still a wonderful experience thanks WU.

Once the fluff chucker on the far bank left the Boy's Rocks area and I could move in I began to steadily hook Barbel until lunchtime, landing 5 and losing a few others on crab, halibut and sausage pellets with pva mesh and later a cage feeder to introduce free offerings. The biggest was 9 pounds exactly, smallest about 6 and unusually several showed signs of scarring on the body, perhaps from over-vigorous spawning or cormorant/otter attacks? The chub came later on cheese and whilst casting a huge spoon for an enormous pike I spotted I hooked what I have been told was a shad. Never even seen one before and returned it asap but good to know they're about in the Wye I guess. Awesome day as usual, I will be back.

3 Browns caught around middle of beat. Largest one taken (approx 12") others returned. Nymphs and small goldheads, not too much on the surface. Love this beat, great variety of water.

I found getting into a position to fish for trout and grayling quite difficult throughout most of this beat. In fact I found access to fishing very difficult. The river was not swollen I thought the level looked about perfect with the flow clear and just touching the green bank-side vegetation in a few places. On the other hand it's probably a very good place in which to be a grayling.

Very good conditions, warm, overcast and damp. A good hatch of large lake olives, trout taken on a variety of flies - large dry sedges and muddlers, damsels, buzzers and traditional wets such as kate Mclaren and black gnats - very good fishing!
