Always exciting to fish a previously unfished beat. Easy, safe parking about 5 minutes walk from the beginning of the beat. Water seemed a little low and the early autumn canopy was a hindrance all day. Persevered with dries and winkled out 5 wbt. One a handsome 11"er.
For me the beat improved as you work your way up. Relatively simple wading and I suspect more open and accessible for casting earlier in the season. That's when I shall give this beat another go.
If you have the energy and an early start an angler (Wild Stream Season Permit holder) could carry on and fish the middle section beat as well in a single day. Now there's a thought.

Was after Barbel but no action all day. It didn't matter: the Wye for me, is about being there and I'm grateful for that. Finally changed to light gear and pulled out plenty of silver fish (couldn't miss). Easiest beat I've fished in terms of parking/access to the river, cleared swims etc and very lovely part of the world as usual.
Lots of weedy/grassy stuff coming down all day made fishing difficult and re casting necessary every few minutes. That's nature, I guess.
Only had about 20 canoes all day, which is good, but they don't look out for anglers as a priority. They see you then apologise for being close but they don`t look for you. They should be looking for anglers ahead then moving away in good time.
As an angler I sit in peaceful surroundings but i can hear a canoe coming several hundred yards away and its not the boat or the paddle or the water: its the vocal occupants. They aren't rude or unruly or deliberately disruptive, they just chat with each other, at normal and slightly louder volumes and don't think about anglers.

The river was clearing during the morning. I lost three trout before lunch, caught four in the afternoon. One 7 inches, two 8 inches and a ten inch fish, all on a dry sedge. Not easy, but great fun. Stayed the night before and the night afterwards at the Caravan club site at Pandy. Excellent site on the bank of the Honddu.
Saw dippers, kingfishers, and for the first time ever, an otter. What a lovely river. My thanks to the Foundation for making this beat available.

1 small trout caught on size 18 Adams. Very cold East wind may have accounted for little observed fish activity.

Beautiful stretch of water at just the right height and colour for salmon fishing. None seen or caught, though two trout did like the small cascade I was using. Both returned. Bankside rough but passable with care. Water worth fishing again, possibly more for trout than salmon. Enjoyable, if frustrating, day. Thanks.

River high, quite coloured. Strong flow and missing studs kept me out of a lot of this water. Most fish fell to the fine and fluffy Black Magic nymph (Jonathan Barnes)with a couple on the Pale Watery dry (JB again). I was fishing in the faster water and also lost a couple of really strong fish (2 - 3lbs). Will be back with better strategy. Great, colourful and fit fish, got harder in the afternoon.

Arrived at the beat at 8ish. There were only 2 of us as 1 called off. Me and the father outlaw decided to go to the top of the beat to start off. I had my 1st barbel about 9am on crab pellet and it just got better and better. I decided to try cheese paste on my old mark 1v split cane rod and was soon rewarded with an 8lb barbell, which was great on the old rod. David missed a few bites and lost others to snags. I'd had 7 when David went to pick his wife up who said that as we'd got a spare rod she'd have a go. Whilst he had gone I went really far downstream and hit a great spell. At 1 point I had 6 barbel in an hour - really wild fishing in amongst the bushes and nettles. When they came back at 4:30 they went back to the top of the beat and I joined them to help Liz out. She didn't need it and soon had her 1st ever barbel of about 7lb. David also got 1 about the same weight. Liz then got a roach - she was well chuffed.
It's a great stretch with kingfishers fishing in front of us and well kept. Canoeists were very polite today and even told their party to keep the noise down for us. The river was up from last time we came. I also had 2 eels of 3lb+. Can't wait to come back, thanks WUF.
