Conditions were overcast, and blustery at times. A series of sunny days left the water-level relatively low.
I used spider patterns to begin with. Greenwells Spider proved popular last summer, so I started with that. With no luck, I soon switched to a Waterhen Bloa to catch my first 2" trout.
There was plenty of fly life, including a few mayfly, but no fish were taking off the surface.
I briefly cast a nymph, a Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear, to align with the the supposed feeding habit, to nothing.
My last fly was another spider, the popular Snipe & Purple pattern, to catch one trout no more than 6".

Bright sunshine made conditions difficult but had a great weekend. One Salmon lost on Saturday. Had 9lb pike on fly rod and had 9 Shad between us which was welcome sport. Terry very helpful and estate rods we met on Sunday again full of help and information, will be back.
Trout rods struggled in bright condition but had couple of small trout and 12 inch Grayling.

Beat:Arrow Monkland

Fishing:All Species (in season)

I'am afraid we haven't bothered the fish; saw one rise top end of the beat but not much evidence of fish. Wonderful local but chatted to a local man who said he'd seen otters recently significant? But also said the private stretch had not produced either.

River slightly high, but reasonable clarity. Several fish seen, but declined the fly. The beat looks in excellent condition, due to Mick's hard work and regular management. An enjoyable day.

25+ to hand , with 6 taking beadhead nymphs until the sun broke through. Olives started peeling off at 12.30 and the trout locked onto them instantly. I netted a further 7 in this half hour period then they switched to mayfly at 1p.m. I netted a further 12 or so over the next 2 hours. Size wise all were between 7-12 inches with the better sized fish taking the mayfly pattern. the Olchon was carrying a little extra water which always helps on this beat.
