2 rods fished on Friday 19th August, 1 on fly 1 spinning. Conditions were rainy in the morning and dry and mild in the afternoon.
The river was in great order with plenty of fish showing in the morning and very little canoe activity which was a bonus!
Massive plus for the day was the advice and company of resident ghillie/gilly Mick Sutton. His knowledge of the beat was superb and his stories even better! It was our first time on the beat but will always book him and strongly recommend anyone else to do the same, a really top man with a good nature, and very reasonable priced!
No fish caught but we had a superb day.

Fished morning and evening. Morning very slow but took 2 fish on Greenwell glory ffrom the bottom end of the beat which has been the only place with consistently rising fish. I came back for the evening rise with sedge patterns proving particularly effective. GandH in particular.

Great day on the river once more. A steady day with fish being caught at regular intervals. Some welcome rain should help the flow.

On the basis that, no doubt, some smart 'arris fishing a mile upstream of me will have emptied the river, I had better be careful what I say next but, compensation water from the Elan Valley made for a very difficult day - and not what I had in mind when I climbed out of a warm bed at 05:00 this morning. A gin clear river, pushing through with a noticeably cold feel to it. Mixing it up, with tungsten nymphs and fishing the stream with a dry (there was nothing rising), resulted in just two Trout during the morning. As with the water, one of them going 2lb plus was some compensation. Slightly better in the afternoon, another Trout, a brace of Grayling (both 1lb plus) and, when I finally encountered some rising fish, 4 Parr in rapid order on an Adams.
Of course, it could have been the thing on the other end of the rod ....
(WUF note... The level of flows from Elan are way above both compensation and regulation flows: valves are being repaired at Caban)

The day dawned bright and sunny which did not fill us with confidence. We started in the field opposite the church and roved the entire stretch returning to the church field in the early evening.
My brother struggled for bites throughout the day which was odd as we both fished the usual methods. He ended the day with 1 barbel and 1 chub, with the remainder falling to my rod.
N.B. Canoes were a major disruption throughout the afternoon, with large numbers beaching on the gravel banks below the shallow water and stopping for lunch with many taking to swmimming the glide stretch below the shallows...needless to say we moved to the lower stretch as fishing during this period was not viable..!
