No fish seen - but a great stretch of water to be on for a day.
Met Mick the resident ghillie - will definitely use his services next time. In the brief chat we had - really saw the difference he would make in being successful in finding the salmon on the beat. He mentioned water was a bit high today and although clearing in colour - ideally needed to drop another foot or so.
Will be back!

My first day of the season at Wyesham. River still on the high side but had a lively sealiced 14 lbs fish on a single hook Flying C. and lost a larger fish shortly afterwards. A run of fish arrived in the pool with four showing.
Packed up early to watch the rugby.....I should have stayed!

Arrived at midday. Water running very clear. Began by working my way up from the weir to the top bridge, but saw no sign of fish or fly hatch. I then worked my way down the remainder of the beat. I saw a number of fish moving in the deeper pools in the middle of the beat and missed one take on a small Klinkhammer pattern. Tried the lower section of the beat with no success. A few midges around later in the afternoon.

Strong downstream gale made casting tricky. V short hatch around midday that got a few fish rising but mostly on far side which meant by the time I got into position to cast the hatch had stopped. Caught a nice trout on a swung wet fly when the wind really got going. Thanks to WUF.

River rising quickly to red line, one fish splashed in top end of spring pool. Nice 1lb trout to Henry. Has anyone come across numerous fresh water lice on trout ?
(WUF note: yes, common in low hot water)
