I arrived at 8 o'clock after 2 days of heavy rain ,which followed and marked the end of the heatwave of 2018 as it will be known. It would have been later if I had got a coffee from the place we passed on the road, but Red said she did not think it looked an establishment that cleaned their equipment,Red is usually right about these things. The river was fresh and clean unlike its lowland cousins unwashed appearance would have been. I walked the lower beat, the little 6 foot 3 weight would work well with trees and willows caressing the surface. No trout were moving despite armadas of water boatmen and some having mass regattas at every bend. I failed to catch anything except trees, and returned at 4 pm to repeat the same but included a swim when the bank under the electric fence, which on advice I so carefully limbo d,vanished beneath me, I eventually hauled myself out clutching the actual nettle ,the dry scorched grass coming away in my grasp ,Red said she expected I squealed like a baby, she is usually right about these things .This is a great beat as lots of variety, mill pond, riffles and slow deep sections ,I learned a lot, mostly that a really really long wading stick is a good thing and that, chest waders and life saver are highly recommended .So,no fish, despite using all my dry fly's and nymphs, but a privilege to be on this beat.

Fished from 13:30 to 20:30 in the woods section. Fishing pellet and feeder had 10 barbel upto 7.5lbs. After 5pm it was virtually a bite a cast. The small amount of rain and overcast conditions seemed to make the difference.
Not sure whether it is an issue but three mink were observed. I know they can cause quite a lot of destruction to fisheries and other general wildlife

The river was still very low, despite rain in Wales during the previous few days. I decided to fish the fast water opposite what is normally the island, now firmly connected to the far bank. Did not start to fish until about 4.30 so that the canoes, which have to share the narrow flow, had more or less finished for the day. Several groundings and a capsize kept me entertained until they had gone. The swim seemed to have plenty of chub with two caught, a couple lost and some missed bites but no sign of barbel. Eventually , just as it was getting dark the barbel came on and I had two respectable fish, the largest around 7lbs, which was as much as I expected in the conditions.

First day of two at this stretch , some rain the day before which is obviously much needed, gave me some hope, unfortunately virtually impossible to fish as so much weed coming through, Couldn’t keep a bait on the bottom for more than a minute, very frustrating, so nothing caught

Challenging beat if you try to do the whole length thing, lots of fallen trees to pass about 1/3 way in and there's no escaping! Water was low and some colour following rain earlier. Several rises but only netted one.
