Fishing:Winter Grayling

A cool day with rain on and off all day. The river was still low, not affected by the rain yet. Landed 5 grayling at 8" to 13" from various places, all on a small pink shrimp, they do not appear to be in shoals yet. Plus 1 trout, again on the shrimp. And a (pleasant) surprise - a feisty 9" perch, all bold stripes and red fins, again on the shrimp - a very healthy fish.

All fish were caught in the morning when it was overcast and raining on and off. All fish taken on heavy nymphs with one or two having a go at the indicator fly. All fish were caught in the deep glide of the bottom field of the beat The odd fish was rising but nothing to warrant putting a dry on. Brightened up at about 4pm but by this time we were getting cold having been in the river up to our thighs for several hours. River was clear but there was significant leaf fall making things a tad difficult.

Fished in very bright and hot October conditions and struggled a bit.
Two of us in meadow and one in woods, only one barbel caught.
A lot of weed started coming down mid morning making fishing very difficult .
Like Courtfield though and normally fish it when we come down
