Although no fish were caught and only one seen this beat seemed to be in prime condition. Heavy rain and strong winds were forecast but did not arrive until about 2pm. We fished from both banks upstream of the bridge before our lunch and then part of the right bank below the bridge in the afternoon. The water level had clearly risen due to recent rain but was relatively clear and wading with caution and a stout stick was possible off both banks. We hadn't fished this beat before but it shouted fish at us and I was surprised that we didn't touch any, nevertheless it was a cracking good day as long as one remembers that salmon/seatrout fishing (and even brownies) is not just about catching fish. Good luck and tight lines to those who follow.

Another outstanding beat.
Access to some of the swims was a bit steep but I would suggest if anyone struggles a bit getting up and down to the river take some rope with you. The swim just inside the wood is easily accessible though I managed to blank there !
Despite a rather rainy day it was still enjoyable.
The only down side was that I had to get my loppers out to cut back the brambles which would've put nasty scratches down our cars.
We have spent the week at The Falcon House B&B at How Caple
which I always recommend when we have our few days on the Wye. It's central to most parts of the middle Wye. It's very reasonably priced , very friendly hosts and best of all great breakfasts !!

Another good day on a coloured and rainy Wye. Less canoe traffic due to the weather. Fishing fed throughout the day and all came to pellet/feeder

A final wild stream trip for the time being - a few days staying up near Longtown coming to an end. Again a small and relatively untended stream, but plenty of fish were in little runs and pools. I only really covered the bottom half of the beat and found 8 willing to take either nymph or klink. Lost a few too. Best was from a very deep pool - just as I was lifting to cast a beautiful 14" fish took the nymph. Which kept me very happy, in spite of the fact that having released it, it was impossible to wade the pool and there was a vicious barbed wire fence on the RHB were I was supposed to be. Not sure how I was meant to progress from there - walked the length of the field but no crossing point. In the end I climbed it, and seemed to survive (as did waders) but far from ideal. LHB not viable either, although fishing was single bank only at that point. Enough complaining - a lovely stretch, fish 6-14". And a minnow.
Wuf comment: barbed wire noted for treatment, many thanks for letting us know

An enjoyable day, though conditions challenging. two reasonable size fish hooked, but lost both :0( Three men fished through the beat with spinners whilst I was fishing, which was rather frustrating!
