Unfortunately only had time to fish for about 3 hours in the afternoon in the end so just tried the top end of the beat. Managed to tempt a couple of nice trout on spiders but it was fairly hard going, overcast and windy and not much rising. Nice to back here again though even if my day was short.

Bowled up at the bridge this morning at eleven , slight drizzle murky and about fifteen degrees with an annoying blustery breeze that picked up even more through the three and a half hours I was fishing there . . . .
Water looked good , always has that slight tinge here, running at a nice height , and plenty of insect life about , great too see . . . .
Initially opted for a Parachute Pheasant Tail as there were some upwings about at half eleven , no takers on the dries so went for an eighteen flashback PTN , success a lovely savage take in one of the deep pools , and a cracker of an Edw fish , possibly thirteen inches and superb markings!!! Next cast bang , another and again a good fish for here. . . . . Great fun !!!
Fishing was good all the way up , in some areas catapult casting the tiny gold bead nymph but success in the tight little pools and some great takes on the nymph this morning . . . First time in ages I stayed on the nymph all the time I was there . . . . Ringing the changes with the changeable weather too !!!!
One pool had an absolute lunker for here all of fourteen or fifteen inches, superb and a lovely bend in my six foot two weight rod . . . Spot on !!!!
So nine beauties this morning , three on and off as well , always good fun here , although a lot of the time kneeling in the stream to get cast under the canopy , cracking stuff, and nice to see the kingfisher up and down all the time I was there, some trees starting to turn now , wont be long till its seasons end !!!
Chilled out with my dinner on the bridge after a slow bimble back down the fields , a cracking three and a half hours here , and the Edw always has some surprises , one of my best fish to date here, happy days , may even squeeze in another quick session here before the end of the month . . . . Happy days !!!

Fished by the hut, was very enjoyable and productive, lost a big fish ( no I really mean it !!!!) but caught a wonderful barbel and a couple of chub and an eel. Had to stop around 1600 as the river turned into a motorway for branches, tree stumps, logs and meadows. Ten seconds after a cast my rod was being pulled into the river........A shame really.

First time on this beat. Very clear water and the bedrock and gravel gave no cover for the spooky fish. While stood at the tail of one pool, preparing to fish it, a cormorant launched itself from the head of the pool and took off upstream.

Once again the weather forecast was wrong, saying it would rain on and off all day today. In fact it rained during Wednesday night and the river rose do a decent height during the night and fell during the day.
I'm reminded what a lovely beat this, particularly the stretch in front of the hut down to the rapids. There was no sign of life at all until lunchtime when some flies started coming off and there was an occasional rise. All the fish I caught were in faster water.
There was, again, no sign of salmon. I have seen one Wye salmon only this year, when I hooked one and it got off. I can only imagine that numbers are low.
